After the huge success of previous editions artist Dorit Bialer has now released a brand new series of her Berliner in Box sets with typical Berlin characters as fun Playmobil versions. After previous versions gave us the punks at Kaisers and the Berghain girl her new series features brand new characters such as the street artist, the serial daters, the hipster drag queen, the fashion blogger, the real estate shark and the DJ. As a little extra there are also two new Berliner classics such as Christiane F. and Nina Hagen. Well, and as a personal treat there is also a version of ME! Yes, you read that one right, I have been turned into a Playmobil character too.
The playsets are once again filled up with lots of little details and witty description texts on the boxes that poke fun at all of the stereotypes. It’s a wonderfully creative continuation of the series and brings the whole concept into the current time. If you like these amazing sets you can also have your own custom You in a Box set made by Dorit, it’s also a great and original gift idea for Christmas!

Back in September we posted about artist Dorit Bialer‘s series of Berliners in a Box for the first time here on iHeartBerlin and this article became one of the most successful ones of our history. But also for the artist a lot of things happened since than as she has been in countless newspapers, tv programs and magazines with her witty and charming playmobil versions of stereotypical Berlin habitants.
Today we would like to show you some brand new works that have been made by Dorit recently as well as a couple of her early works from the series that came out in a first edition back in 2011. This time we have some contemporary classic Berlin characters such as the Berghain party girl and the Start-Up guy. And from the first edition we have the former DDR Athlete, the Israeli Immigrant (in reference to the artist herself), the Berlin tourist guide, the Hartz IVler from Friedrichshain, the old spinster, the Neukölln Immigrant and the 2011 version of the hipster . Enjoy some more Berliners in a Box after the jump and if you are still looking for a Christmas present for your loved ones you should have Dorit create a custom version of You in a Box.

One of the most fun and memorable exhibits of the recent group exhibition by Your Mom’s Agency that took place at the same venue as our WE ARE BERLIN group show was the series of Berliners in a Box by Dorit Bialer. It was basically playsets made of customized Playmobil dolls and accessories that resembled the typical types of people you will encounter here in Berlin, such as the depressed Aldi salesclerk, the starving artist, the successful artist, the punks in front of Kaisers, the Prenzlauer Berg mom, the underpaid intern and so on. The packages are made with a lot of wit and love to the details so it’s really fun to explore all these Berlin clichees and they will certainly make you laugh. What is even more interesting is that the artist also offers to make these boxes custom made for you which could very well be the most original portrait you will ever get of yourself. But for now let’s enjoy the Berliners in a box!
