Now that the cold and dark evenings make the concept of a Wegbier by the canal a rather unpopular idea, bars with their cozy and inviting interiors are a tempting alternative. In this post, we’ve collected some of our favorite spots in Kreuzkölln. They’re all more or less within a walking distance from each other, so don’t get discouraged if one of them is too full and simply enjoy your stroll through one of Berlin’s most famous nightlife areas!
Film and theater premieres are so exciting because you get the chance to see the team behind a production. Therefore we are really happy that we had the great honor to welcome the director of the film Wild Tales Damian Szifron at our Cocktail & Movie Night together with the Staatsoper Berlin.
He is currently rehearsing his first opera production at the Staatsoper: Samson et Dalila. In the course of this, we have planned this event in cooperation with the Staatsoper in order to be able to also show his film work in the opera. The team of Russian Standard and Sierra Milenario has designed two cocktails that embody the Latin American temperament and the incredible energy of the film.
Together with Staatsoper Unter den Linden we have again the honor to invite you and your friends to a unique Cocktail & Movie Night. On the 6th of November, we will first host a cocktail reception at the Kantine of the opera and then show the unique Argentinian movie “Wild Tales” by Damián Szifron at the Alter Orchesterprobensaal.
Wild Tales is putting all the Argentinian spirit for love, sex, violence, and absurdity in six short episodes that reunite in one extremely hilarious plot. No wonder the movie was internationally acclaimed by the critics and the audience. Now nearly four years after Wild Tales was nominated for the Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Movie, the director Damián Szifron is making his opera debut here in Berlin at the Staatsoper with his version of Samson et Dalila which premieres on the 24th of November.
It’s been a while since we shared a new selection of Berlin bars. But especially for the cold months, being aware of some cozy place that serves nice cocktails and drinks is especially practical. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we came across Zitronenstraße – a project that highlights Berlin’s most romantic spots such as bars, cafes, restaurants and parks on an interactive map. Although the town is full of bars and cafes, sometimes you still end up clueless as to where can you take your date. This is especially common during Winter, when even the most tenacious Berliners have to seek shelter from the cold. Adapting to the Berlin Winter can mean a lot of things. For me personally, Winter is not only about suffering absurd weather conditions but also to take the opportunity to learn new things. After all Summer in Berlin is way too distracting to do so.
But instead of going to Volkshochschule to a Photoshop course or taking a French class, this year I learned how to create some of the best Whiskey cocktails ever. Not bad, huh? One of the finest American Whiskey brands Woodford Reserve invited us to meet and learn from two bartending superstars. At Bar Convent Berlin we met one bartender from Le Titty Twister in Paris and one bartender from Herzog in Munich. They personally showed us how to create two of their favorite Whiskey drinks and we made notes for you to copy 😉
Especially in this dark month of the year I love Whiskey drinks with a tangerine scent. They give me a feeling of comfort, like sitting in front of a stove or a fireplace and listening to the sound of the wind outside making the trees rustle. Perfect for the rest of Autumn I would say. Food culture is nothing you are supposed to take lightly. Especially when you have Italian origins. Food is love, passion, dedication and joy. There is no better way to get closer to other human beings than sharing a meal and a good drink. When I was younger and living in a smaller town (in East Germany) a good meal was something I could only enjoyed at home (because restaurants in East Germany pretty much failed at that). When I moved to Berlin I discovered the diversity of the gastronomy here and I was especially surprised that I could enjoy so many authentic Italian meals so far away from the land of my origin (now I sound like a grandpa).
But let’s face the facts. Berlin is also full of places that are not authentic and not the best. Our friends and food lovers from Berlino Magazine did not stand the fact that there are so many wannabe Italian restaurants only serving the mediocre cliche dishes (Pizza, Pasta, Lasagne, you name it) and so many Berliners did not get to enjoy the real authentic and special recipes only Italians know and like. Italian food culture has such a variety of amazing dishes that deserve to be known and appreciated that they started the 72hrs True Italian Food Festival. Starting this Thursday September 28nd at 19h until Sunday evening October 1st 2017, over 50 Italian restaurants, pizzerias, wineries, bakeries and bars will offer their own specialties to all Berliners for just 7 EUR including a glass of wine.
Every year, slowly but steadily, summer finds its way to Berlin. And with it the festivals pop up, seemingly endless. Your Facebook feed is basically exploding and they all appear like your wildest summer dream come to life. But where to start, which to choose, and who should join the perfect festival squad? …Struggles, so in the end you surrender and end up at Volkspark-Friedrichshain, having a barbecue. At least that’s how it feels like to me.
So, when Somersby – the fruity Scandinavian Cider – invited us to the Helene Beach Festival, of course, we went – Far to the east, actually, as east as it gets if you weren’t planning a spontaneous trip to Poland. The thought of half naked bodies, sun screen and apple cider, convinced us to pack our things and leave Berlin for the weekend. A summer beach festival located directly at a beautiful lake, with a wide variety of artists was waiting for us. Summer – music – chill – Let’s do this!
