Have you ever been one of those people who have contemplated quite a few times what dream ability they would like to have in a utopian, perfect world, where surreal is a synonym to possible? Personally, I would love to be able to fly and see everything from above. It would help me realize to the fullest how little each of us is in comparison to the entire world and how we often tend to think that we are the center of it.
Whereas this still remains impossible, Berlin Bird’s Eye brings you at least a step closer to this experience. This project basically has set out to use drones to capture mesmerizing views of Berliner neighborhoods from above. Take a look at the videos they have been publishing weekly since last December and admire the breathtaking views over snow-covered Hasenheide, Görlitzer Park, Frankfurter Allee, Rummelsburger Bucht and the Spree.

For the fans of American Horror Story this makes a great setting for the unraveling of gruesome and spooky plotlines. The ferris wheel used to be part of the Spreepark, a theme park in Treptow Köpenick that opened in 1969 as Kulturpark Plänterwald. Unfortunately, a lack of ample parking space and a rise in the price of the ticket led to the closing of the park on the onset of the current century. What followed was an unbelievable series of stories about the park and its owner that far exceeds the notoriousness of most other abandoned places in Berlin. The following spectacular drone video made by a Swedish drone flyer and urban explorer showcases the park, as it is now; abandoned and forgotten with the ferris wheel moving slowly in the wind as if ghosts keep it company to make it forget its eternal loneliness. Anyone who has seen the second season of the iconic TV show America Horror Story knows: Old asylums are creepy as fuck. Berlin has one of those pretty close by, I’m sure some of you have heard about the Refugium Beelitz that is located a bit South of Potsdam and can easily be reached by train. The asylum was built in the late 19th century for patients with lunge diseases. In the years of the two world wars it was used as a lazaret and sanatorium before it became a regular clinic for the remaining half of the century. Around 2000 it was abandoned and its condition deteriorated over the years. The special charm of the architecture mixed with the decay made it a magnet for film makers who shot Hollywood films here, but also for perverted minds, such as one particular guy back in 2008 who lured girls there for photo shootings that ended really ugly for them.
