ESMOD Graduates Fashion Show 2015

ESMOD Graduates Fashion Show 2015

In a time where fashion needs to be fast, easy and sellable it’s a pretty ballsy move from the ESMOD School of Design to push their students to such eccentric and conceptual collections. Many other design school have resorted to a more market-oriented design philosophy which I can totally understand, but it’s really sad because it kind of kills the idea that fashion should be inspiring and innovative. If you just follow the pressure of the market you are not really being inspiring or innovative at all.

When I look at the new collections of the graduates from ESMOD I see only creativity, wild ideas and big dreams. This is why I enjoy the ESMOD shows more and more each year because they are such a source of entertainment and inspiration for me. What I also appreciate is the level of sophistication that has improved significantly each year. I know the school is really tough and demanding on their students, but the results are excellent. Let’s have a look at some of my favorite collections (which are almost all of them that were shown this past Saturday) and see if we can find the next Marina Hoermanseder in there somewhere.

ESMOD International Fashion Show 2014 Photos

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ESMOD Berlin the private design school invited 10 of their most successful and celebrated graduates from all the ESMOD schools around the globe. Two very respected and celebrated labels based in Berlin opened the show and for them it was pretty much a home rum. I’m glad I got to see the rising star Marina Hoermanseder’s new collection which I missed during fashion week and also to see the new designs of August Teboul, the queens of Berlin Avant-Garde, once again. All the other designers were totally new to me and it was a little bit like a trip around the world in terms of fashion. It’s interesting to see the different styles from other countries, though not everything was really our cup of tea. We selected our favorites for you after the jump. Enjoy!

Berlin Fashion: The ESMOD Graduates Show 2014

Berlin Fashion: The ESMOD Graduates Show 2014

On Monday night the ESMOD Berlin – School of Design showcased the first graduates of their new Bachelor program of fashion design on a runway at the new Bikini Berlin. We’ve been following their graduate shows for a while now and are always amazed by the talent that this school is bringing out. Every year the collections seem to be better than before and this year we liked almost every single one of them. Especially the amount of menswear is exciting for us and those collections we liked a lot. We totally agree with the three awarded collections by Jean-Cédric Sow, who won the Jury Price, Thomas Cardelli who won the Creator Price and Sojin Park who received the Golden Needle. Looking forward to what these designers will be doing in the future! After the jump you can see a huge photo set of our favorite looks. Enjoy!

Cinéma de Mode: Ilpox

Cinéma de Mode: Ilpox

In our today’s Cinéma de Mode we have the latest masterpiece by director Mudhar Al Khufash for Berlin-based designer Marina Hoermanseder‘s diploma collection Spring/Summer 2014. The collection Ilpox was shown at the Graduate Fashion Week in London earlier this year and it’s the result of the young designer’s hard work at the Esmod fashion school in Berlin, later perfected at Alexander McQueen. Hoermanseder’s first collection draws a fine line between fetish, high fashion, and playfulness, taking inspirations from orthopaedic practices to correct body deformities and serious skin conditions. The fashion film reflects perfectly the designer’s fashion statement, highlighting the high level of quality and handcraft of the pieces, clearly visible in the twisted buckles, leather straps, headpieces and armcuffs. Have a look at this new contemporary fashion inspiration after the jump! Read on…

Cinéma de Mode: The WUU Project – ESMOD Special

On Monday Berlin school of design ESMOD will be hosting their annual St. Catherine Charity Fashion Show at the Nikolaisaal in Potsdam (near Berlin). The most extravagant and amazing designs from the students of the school will be presented on the runway, all the proceeds of the evening will be donated to a charity organization helping women in need.

For this occasion our Cinéma de Mode is screening The WUU Project, a brand new fashion film by Daniela Franceschini who is a graduate from the ESMOD’s new English language Master Class “Sustainability in Fashion”. It was shot by Carlos Luque and features one of my favorite Berlin-based models: the wonderful Rosa. Enjoy the film after the jump and visit the big charity fashion show of the ESMOD on Monday.

Cinéma de Mode: ESMOD Special – Win Tickets for Graduates Show

Cinéma de Mode: ESMOD Special – Win Tickets for Graduates Show

Karen Jessen

Earlier this week a selection of the best graduates from the ESMOD School of Design in Berlin presented their collections on the catwalk of the newly launched Graduates Fashion Week in London. I think a special fashion showcase only for graduates is an amazing idea. These young talents need to be seen and very often the work of young designers is especially spectacular and creative because so early on in their life as a designer they are not so heavily influenced by the pressure of the business and that makes their designs more experimental and playful and their attitude very idealistic. After the jump you can find some photos of the participating designers from Berlin. For our Cinéma de Mode we are showing you the colorful and powerful fashion film of ESMOD graduate Karen Jessen who also showed in London.

This coming Tuesday the ESMOD Berlin will showcase their graduates here in Berlin in a runway show at the Eisenhalle. The fashion show is strictly for invited guests but we are raffling off a set of two tickets for you to see the show. Find out how to win after the jump.
