The Young and the Wild – UdK and HTW Fashion Shows 2012

The Young and the Wild – UdK and HTW Fashion Shows 2012

For me the most important part of Berlin Fashion Week are the young designers who are still in their wild and experimental phase where they are trying out new things with their designs regardless of any commercial aspect of fashion. The fashion shows of the design schools of Berlin, such as the UdK, Weißensee, HTW, Esmod and others, are a wonderful pool of talent and ideas and I always try to see as many shows like that as I can. This season I made it to the UdK show and the self-organized group show of 4th semester HTW students at Stadtbad Oderberger. Both shows presented a big number of designers and it’s always a bit of a bazaar of different styles and qualities of fashion. In both shows I had one absolute favorite. At the UdK it was the graduate collection of Henning Jurke who presented his work under the title Celebration. When the first look of his menswear collection – a vibrant trench coat in hot metallic pink – entered the runway I instantly had to smile and got into a really good mood excited for every next look to come onto the runway. It’s one of those rare moments during fashion week when a design triggers an emotion in you that makes the whole hassle of sitting through one show after the other totally worth it.

The same thing happened to me with the last pair of outfits by Wiebke Christin Le Bus at the doppelgaenger show by the HTW students. The mix of Where The Wild Things Are and South American folklore was just a delight to see and instantly made me dream of a whole collection in that style. I specifically liked the idea of the colorful knitted pants transitioning into colorful painted feet. Enjoy some impressions of both shows after the jump.

Bonnie Strange’s The Shit Show & Party Photos

Bonnie Strange’s The Shit Show & Party Photos

The Shit: Lena, Bonnie & Laura

You’ve already had a look behind the scenes of Bonnie Strange‘s first big The Shit fashion show. And now I’m finally giving you the photos of the big party and the show. It was the most fun event during Berlin Fashion Week, thanks to Bonnie’s cheeky Fuck You! attitude. I guess all pseudo-serious and boring fashion journalists who laid eyes on the daring collection that was dominated by lycra, plush, pleather and the colors neon pink, green and yellow must have died inside a little, haha! To me this was exactly what a show must be like: Lots of fun! And I love it when a designer actually has a sense of humor – you never get to see this in Berlin. If you want to see the looks of the show head over to Glamcanyon. To see the party head over the jump and enjoy!

Behind the Scenes of Fashion Week: Bonnie Strange’s The Shit Show

On Saturday multi-talent Bonnie Strange invited me over to the preparation of her very first self-organized fashion show for her brand new label The Shit to take some photos in the backstage area before the show. I must say, I am deeply impressed by how great she and her team put such a big event together in such a short time. Cudos, Bonnie! After the jump you’ll find many colorfull impressions and animations from the production as part of our Behind the scenes of Fashion Week series. Enjoy the fun on 3 pages and stay tuned for the photos of the show and the party that will be released tomorrow.

Designer Scouts Fashion Shows 2012 Photos

Designer Scouts Fashion Shows 2012 Photos

photos by Katja Hentschel

Last night was a very exciting night for my friend Gina and me. Our 9th Designer Scouts event took place in the oversized studio of our friend Julia from JULIAANDBEN. When I first stepped into this space it instantly gave me a feeling of excitement: Apart from it’s perfect size and build-up it had such an amazingly positive and creative vibe (probably some left-over Karma from the gallery that was in here before Julia moved in) that I instantly thought: We have to do a runway show in here. We haven’t actually done any runway since the good old days when we started the Designer Scouts project at HBC about two years ago. What a long journey we’ve had since then: installations, fashion presentations, exhibitions, fashion films, swap markets and what not. But in the end it was clear: The ultimate ritual of fashion is the runway show. My recap and the impressions after the jump.

The Berlin Fashion Week Event & Party Guide

The Berlin Fashion Week Event & Party Guide

Tom van de Borght

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO WEAR!!! Seriously, I have no idea what I am gonna wear next week. Not a single outfit. Somehow I have neglected to go shopping in the past few months. My wallet is grateful, but I am in horror of those moments I need to get dressed to leave the house for the coming week.

My mundane problems aside, once again we have selected the most interesting – and most importantly: public – events, shows and parties of the upcoming Berlin Fashion Week. We also added a couple of events that are closed, but that we are raffling off tickets for in our big Berlin Fashion Week Ticket Packages. Have a look at the best of Berlin Fashion Week after the jump. And don’t forget to get your outfits sorted…

Cinéma de Mode: ESMOD Special – Win Tickets for Graduates Show

Cinéma de Mode: ESMOD Special – Win Tickets for Graduates Show

Karen Jessen

Earlier this week a selection of the best graduates from the ESMOD School of Design in Berlin presented their collections on the catwalk of the newly launched Graduates Fashion Week in London. I think a special fashion showcase only for graduates is an amazing idea. These young talents need to be seen and very often the work of young designers is especially spectacular and creative because so early on in their life as a designer they are not so heavily influenced by the pressure of the business and that makes their designs more experimental and playful and their attitude very idealistic. After the jump you can find some photos of the participating designers from Berlin. For our Cinéma de Mode we are showing you the colorful and powerful fashion film of ESMOD graduate Karen Jessen who also showed in London.

This coming Tuesday the ESMOD Berlin will showcase their graduates here in Berlin in a runway show at the Eisenhalle. The fashion show is strictly for invited guests but we are raffling off a set of two tickets for you to see the show. Find out how to win after the jump.

Experiencing Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week Instagrams

We really want to say thanks to Who’s Next Paris to let us experience these amazing 5 days in Paris. We finally had the chance to check out Paris Fashion Week, see the shows of our fav Bernhard Willhelm as well as Walter van Beirendonck and Damir Doma, dance at the fabulous Flash Cocotte party, meet some great young designers at the Who’s Next fair and browse through giant vintage mountains. All things we just loved. We also had some really weird and funny experience. We saw a crazy and very entertaining catwalk fashion musical at Who’s Next, we met some giant vampire drag queens at Place de la Concorde and found a little hotel with an antique harp in the attic. So beautiful and strange! See all impressions of our lovely trip after the jump.

Vintage Smackdown Fashion Show Photos

Vintage Smackdown Fashion Show

photos by Jens Wernscheid

Last Saturday our first Vintage Smackdown Fashion Show took place at the Wedding Dress #6 festival for urban fashion. The winners of our online outfit battle showed their best and most extraordinary vintage and DIY outfits on the runway and we couldn’t be more proud of every single one of our contestants. We are more then happy that the decision was not up to us but to our jury consisting of bloggers Anna, Katharina, Amandine and David, as well as Leyla Acik, head of style at Berlinpieces, and Lutz Ackermann, press representative of Wedding Dress’ main sponsor degewo.

We had an amazing day with all of you vintage lovers and I think I am speaking for Claudio as well when I say you are all winners in our hearts. Congratulations to Anne for winning the main price! A big thank you from Claudio and me to the whole team behind Wedding Dress, all the wonderful people who took part in this smackdown, all the readers who voted, our partner blogs and jurors, our photographer Jens, my sister and caterer Susanne, the make-up team, our co-stylist Valerie the degewo and all the sponsors of the show!

After the jump you will find many impressions of the show and of backstage on 3 pages. Have fun!

15 years of Galeries Lafayette Berlin

THE RIO GIRLS

photos by Katja Hentschel

This past Saturday the Galeries Lafayette Berlin celebrated their 15th anniversary with a big fashion show and party. There was a lot of champagne and birthday cake involved, so obviously I had to be there. The fashion show was curated by numorous celebraties and creative people from the city who each had to pick 3 outfits from the fashion store. Katja from Travelettes put together some absolutely charming outfits for a modern and chic traveling woman. And The Rio Girls sexed up the whole show with their scandalous glamrock styles. More impressions of the runway and the party after the jump.
