What I like most when I go to a restaurant is to find someone truly passionate about what he does: a pastry chef meticulously preparing his macarons and giving them a perfectly smooth shape, a wine shop owner talking about wines as if he were talking about his lovers or a chef telling you how he chose his potatoes for cooking French fries that are crispy outside and just a little soft inside. I’d like to share some tips with you about authentic French restaurants, bakeries, crêperies, cheese and wine shops, and also present you French artists living in Berlin.

Boulangerie François – A Very Special Bakery

Boulangerie François – A Very Special Bakery

Love, dedication and attention to detail – this is the recipe for great things. François Thibault knows this and so he went against all doubts and critics to break conventions and make something that he felt really passionate about. In a region that is mostly known for its world class brandy he created a vodka made of unusual ingredients: the finest wheat that is normally used by the best bakers in the country and pure spring water from the region. Today, his vodka is considered to be one of the best-tasting ones in the world.

The same amount of love and passion went into the latest project of Grey Goose: The Boulangerie François brings the exquisite vodka together with the original purpose of its ingredients: bakery goods. In the charming atmosphere of a vintage bistro you can enjoy the most delicious bread with handmade jams infused with Grey Goose. The unique place will be open in Berlin for 4 days only at Friedrichstraße 124 in Mitte this coming week from Tuesday til Friday. After the jump you can get a sneak peak of the Boulangerie François and also get a chance to win invitations for an exclusive event there on Friday.

Le Faubourg – Traditional and Nouvelle Cuisine

Le Faubourg – Traditional and Nouvelle Cuisine

Last week I had the pleasure to try out the French restaurant Le Faubourg (which means the suburb) that is in the not-so-far West of Berlin at Augsburger Straße inside the Sofitel Berlin. I must admit that I absolutely love French restaurants (sorry, Italy) so this was a special delight for me. There is something about the way the French chefs prepare meat that is just to die for.

As you can see the interior of the restaurant is stunning with these goregeous Bauhaus lamps and perfectly illuminated tables. The service was impeccable, as you would expect from a high class restaurant like this. And the food was just symphony for the taste buds. The interesting part here is the menu for the main courses that is split in half with traditional versions and modern versions of the same type of meat or fish facing each other. You have options with venison, beef, turbot, sea bass and vegetarian dishes with prices ranging from 18-38 EUR. We tried the dry-aged rump-steak (easily one of the best meat dishes I ever had in Berlin) and the turbot with chorizo (very delicious and unusual combination). As a wine I had the Miraval rosé from the Provence that I loved so much that I made a little research about it on the internet and found out it’s the wine from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. What a funny discovery! So ultimately we did not only enjoy a spectacular dinner, we also were in very good company (in spirit). Enjoy our impressions after the jump.
