A Guide to Bikini Berlin & The New West

A Guide to Bikini Berlin & The New West

Bikini Berlin

Today we want to take a closer look at the Bikini Berlin and the areas around it with all its little gems and treasures. Since the opening of the mall last year a lot has happened in the good old West and all of a sudden everyone was speaking of a renaissance of West Berlin. A couple of high profile hotels opened in the area, new restaurants popped up, a new luxury cinema, the C/O Gallery finally re-opened after its move away from Mitte. And these are just a few of the new developments of the City West. It was about time that we explored this area and compile a little guide for you of the new West Berlin with the Bikini Berlin at its core. Enjoy our selection after the jump!

Berlin Wonderland Book

Berlin Wonderland Book

If you want to get a little bit nostalgic and remember the good old times of this beloved city than there’s nothing better than visiting a photography exhibition featuring the analog highlights of the past. Around the fall of the wall Berlin was really a mysterious wonderland for both sides of the German population. A place where you could jump naked in a pool at night, meet crocodile-transvestites on the street and bungee jump at Brandenburger Tor. Everything seemed possible with the lowest of efforts. The empty houses and bumby streets were not perceived as a depressing background but more as a diorama of multiple possibilities. Collected from several photographers the curator Anke Fesel and Chris Keller choose over 200 pictures all around the first years of the 90s. The result is a coffe table book full of good old memories.

More photos from the book Berlin Wonderland after the jump.

Henrik Vibskov Performance GIFs & Book Release Photos

On Saturday Claudio and I went to the book release party of Henrik Vibskov‘s first book about his work at the Gestalten Space. To make the event a bit more special he used the exhibition space for a little live performance. Claudio was not really impressed by this psychedelic presentation, but I liked so I made some animated GIFs out of the moving sculpture that he created. Check them out after the jump along with some impressions of the party.

In the store you can buy not only the beautiful books of Berlin’s coolest publish house Gestalten but also household accessories and designer toys. The space is also home to a coffee bar and a big exhibition space that will be used for the artists that are published by Gestalten. Find photos and a video of the opening party over at the Gestalten Space Tumblr. Look after the jump for more details and impressions.
