HAU Performance Night

HAU Performance Night

Meet Protectorama. She has the blue skin of Smurfette, a red-haired wig from Tori Amos, a sporty avant-gardistic dress by Bernhard Willhelm and crazy high red latex heels stolen from Lady Gaga. She is a world-healing witch and she lives in the world-healing forrest and is mostly babbling on about her world-healing ritual that involves a lot of cell phone LED lights and the random contents of a couple of Kinder surprise eggs. Despite all this extravaganza she talks like a dude.

Last Saturday the Hebbel theatre transformed its HAU1 and HAU2 houses into a multi-disciplinary wonderland of stage art. While the main building at HAU1 was taken over by the performance group basso who transformed it into a Funeral Charade of Poses with multiple installations and performances taking place all over the building, the HAU2 was hosting several experimental performances by young artists from different schools and classes, including students from the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and from the Institut für Raumexperimente by Olafur Eliasson, UdK Berlin and many more.

A lot of crazy impressions of this magical night, including many more of the lovely Protectorama, right after the jump – on 2 pages…

If you could put somebody on the cover of the young talented German theater scene it would most definetly be the Berlin-based director team Rimini-Protokoll. Since I’ve always been late to write something about them I will now announce the upcoming piece of one  member of this interesting group. Stefan Kaegis’ new piece Heuschrecken (grasshopper) has a lot of sweet little monsters living on stage. His Ökutopia not only reproduces the human fear about closed systems but also shows the power of the will of survival of this horrofying species. Be sure that there will be more than just some shock-moments and be prepared for some seriuos thoughts about upcoming apocalypses. More pictures and informations after the jump.

Your Nanny Hates You

gallery-momoklein

Berliners aren’t so familiar with the topic of the immigrant nannies. The Berlin kids probably have some very intellectual educational science student as a baby sitter while their parents are out partying or just having their alone-time. But in Italy and almost all over the western world where the difference between rich and poor is much wider than in Germany there are a lot of middle to upper-class families with a bunch of nannies. Some for the kids some for the grandparents these African, East European, Philippine, Chinese and South American women do not only have to bring their work to the table but also their love. Because how can you possibly educate and grow a child without love. Is this love for 5 dollar an hour a real one? Or do these nannies actually hate these spoiled brats thinking about their own offsprings being alone the whole day? If you’re interested in these kind of questions you should definitely check out the theatre festival Your Nanny Hates You! at the HAU. My special recommendations for you are after the jump.

Actually I am pretty sure that there will be a lot of pearls to discover. So even if you are not the reading type you should let yourself be surprised. I was there two years ago and was especially thrilled by the singer songwriters. So take the chance to immerse in this wonderful festival and enjoy its incredible atmosphere. More illustrations from Andreas Töpfer and infos after the jump.
