In the past decade, Berlin developed into a European music mecca. Artists from all over Germany and the world moved here because of the inexpensive living costs and the unique artistic atmosphere. But apart from electronic music, what actually are the best bands from Berlin? I set up a very subjective list with my favourite four. More after the jump.
An awesome big art exhibition open up until late? A night of concerts with amazing video projections? A quirky and fun art and photo installation and performance? And a big party on top of all that? What sounds like a whole schedule of events was actually all coming together at Berlinische Galerie last Saturday at the Kunstnacht11 with concerts by Jahcoozi and Creep as well as a performance by Crystal Mafia. Jahcoozi is a multinational band from Berlin, consisting of MC Sasha Perera (London / Sri Lanka), producer Robot Koch (Berlin) and bass player Oren Gerlitz (Tel Aviv). In April they released their latest album Barefoot Wanderer.
Jahcoozi’s music merges genres like Grime, Dubstep Punk Rock, Hip Hop and various blends of electronica to create a unique definition of pop music. For their new album, they also collaborated with a Kenyan dancehall/reggae crew and an Israeli clay pot percussionist (this is the first time I use that term).
