Parasite Single – Beards and Cuteness from Hamburg

Parasite Single – Beards and Cuteness from Hamburg

If you read Wikipedia you find that a Parasite Single (パラサイトシングル parasaito shinguru?) is a single person who lives with their parents beyond their late 20s in order to enjoy a carefree and comfortable life. In Japanese culture, the term is especially used when negatively describing young unmarried women. Quite hard use of words, if you think that this is practically common in a lot of cultures.

Anyway, Parasite Single is also a very cute band from Hamburg. Their sound could be described as trip to another world. Very spiritual and still danceable they manage to create very unique music. Their new single Time Traveler features a really nice music video you can find after the jump. Also there is a new remix of the song The Hunt that I strongly recommend to all fans of electronic music. All my favorite videos after the jump.

Japarade in Pictures

Japarade in Pictures

The Japarade was a funny combination of Halloween, St.Martin’s Parade and Japanes on a techno rave. This event showed me again, how absurd Berlin can be and also that this is why I heart this city so much. We walked through Friedrichshain dressed as little Japanese monters and ended up dancing to the crazy tunes coming ouf of a monster truck. The big finale was a dramatic fight between the grey big monster and the pink squid. Very funny! I just wish the organizers would have done this nice event in the summer. Some impressions after the jump.

The Japarade – Go for a Walk with Berlin’s Japanese Subculture

Japanese subculture is pretty much under-represented in Berlin. The more reason to look forward to the event that will take place this Saturday in Friedrichshain. The Japarade is an interdisciplinary art project that deals with Japanese art and their positions in Berlin’s subculture. The exhibition will take place in two galleries in Friedrichshain and will show the work of Japanese artists in Berlin including contemporary photography, painting, graphic design and installation.

For the opening reception both exhibition locations will be connected with a colorful, loud and wild street parade: The Japarade. Fantastical Japanese creatures of all sorts will entertain the audience. All the details after the jump.

5 Centimeters per Second

5 Centimeters per Second

Missing the sun, missing love and missing Japan. And when things are getting emotionaly intense, everything seems to be even more meaningful. Every song text you hear and every movie you watch has a hidden message just for you. My most beautiful hidden message was in the movie 5 Centimeters  per Second. The music and the images are breathtaking. The whole way the three little love stories are told is very calm and deeply involving. Enjoy pictures and the trailer after the jump.

Susuru – We Heart Japanese Noodles

Susuru – We Heart Japanese Noodles

Not only is this Japanese restaurant extremely nice to look at, it also serves excellent food. The Susuru offers a variety of authentic delicious Japanese Udon noodle soups on a regularly changing menu, as well as some side dishes they refer to as Japanese Tapas. We expecially like Edamame, a small snack consisting of young soy beans in sea salt, the Chicken Curry Udon, which is a very hip dish in Japan right now, and the Matcha Macchiato, which is hot milk with green tea powder. And if you were wondering about the name: Susuru is Japanese and means slurping, cause that’s how Japanese like to eat their soup. Read on for more infos and photos. Read on…
