GONEBERLIN – Berlin Techno Clubs as Jewellery

GONEBERLIN – Berlin Techno Clubs as Jewellery

photos: Fabian Frost

Undoubtly one of the strongest qualities of Berlin is its pulsating nightlife with an endless amount of bars, clubs, DJs and musicians. Especially the local techno scene is one of the most progressive and impressive music scenes in the entire world.

The young jewellery label GONEBERLIN has dedicated their first collection to Berlin’s techno clubs creating solid silver necklaces and brass key rings that resemble abstract versions of some of the most famous techno clubs in Berlin. These unique, locally handcrafted pieces become the perfect memonto of all the amazing parties that you will otherwise only remember by a thumping headache on the next day. The label is not commenting on which clubs they have used as inspiration for the pendants, but if you know your favorite club you will surely recognize it. Among them are the Golden Gate, Chalet, Berghain and the Bunker which is home for the Boros art collection now, but used to be a famous techno club in the 80s and 90s.

The jewellery is available in a strongly limited edition on the GONEBERLIN website. Enjoy some photos of the collection after the jump.

Berlin Goods: Jewellery by WOMAN.MADE

Berlin Goods: Jewellery by WOMAN.MADE

Extraordinary jewellery always has a special place in my heart, not only because of my own ventures into jewellery design, but also because I have a great admiration for beautiful products that go beyond the normal aesthetic of their own genre. In the case of the new jewellery collection by Berlin-based label WOMAN.MADE it is exactly that what attracts me. Instead of thin gold chains designer Stephanie Johne uses a thick white rope as a necklace complemented by pendants of short pieces of copper pipes covered in white leather. The combinations of these unusual materials is truely beautiful and very unique. Elegant, minimalistic, but still very bold. And with the size they make excellent statement pieces. As her inspiration for this collection and her label name she mentions Jean-Michel Basquiat, the enfant terrible of the New York art scene of the 80s who she wrote her art history thesis about.

If you like Stephie’s jewellery as much as we do, you should check out her current offer of one of her amazing necklaces on Newniq right here that is still available for another 6 days. See the rest of the collection after the jump.

Berlin Jewellery by Gabriel Urist for Voo Store

Berlin Jewellery by Gabriel Urist for Voo Store

While the designers of the Pulsader pendant have chosen a quite subliminal way to create a cool, Berlin-themed necklace New York-based jewellery maker Gabriel Urist is a bit more in-your-face with his new Berlin collection that he designed specifically for the Voo Store. His series of necklaces and rings simply spell out the name of our great city in plain bold letters – minimal, but straight to the point effective. If you’re a Berlin lover, you can’t go wrong with this. And if you want it a little less obvious you can also choose the heart that is shaped by two hands, which is also quite cute. Have a closer look at the pieces after the jump. All of the pieces are available at Voo Store at Oranienstr. 24 in Kreuzberg.

Pulsader Berlin Necklace

Pulsader Berlin Necklace

Creating a Berlin-themed piece of design without being too obvious and end up looking like cheap tourist merchandise is really a challenge. Gaspare Buzzatti and Lisa Filipini have managed this challenge quite masterfully with their necklace Pulsader – Berlin’s Beat. It’s huge metal pendant depicts the grid of Berlin’s center around the river Spree. It’s quite smart, because it resembles the city in an iconic way without using clichĂ© shapes like the TV Tower or the Brandenburger Gate. No surprise this design won the first price of the be.berlin souvenir competion of the Senat.

The Accessory Diaries: RenĂ© Talmon L’ArmĂ©e

The Accessory Diaries: RenĂ© Talmon L’ArmĂ©e

If busy-ness is a measure of success then it would appear that things are going very well for RenĂ© Talmon L’ArmĂ©e, lucky last in my Accessory Dairies interviews, mainly because he was endlessly hard to pin down. Always apologising profusely for being terribly busy whenever I finally got him on the phone. Rightly so, as he points out in regards to surviving as an accessory designer in Berlin: “If you are good, you can make your living from whatever you do.” And it is quite clear from his beautifully hand crafted, precious metal jewellery that he is very good at what he does…

The Accessory Diaries: Black Elephant Jewellery

I have been a relentless stalker/fan of fellow Australian Lottie Consalvo ever since I modelled in a shoot featuring some of her amazing remodelled antique metal jewellery under her label Black Elephant Jewellery, so when it came to writing about fellow accessory designers in Berlin she was at the top of my harassment list, happily she agreed, read her interview here…

The Accessory Diaries: Listening with my Eyes

The Accessory Diaries: Listening with my Eyes

Berlin is poor but sexy, so it follows that the Berliners are probably not a great market to buy your designs but get them wearing it cos they’ll make it look damn sexy- and everyone knows sex sells!

As a struggling designer (but aren’t we all) of a fledgling jewellery label in the city of Berlin, i am interested to see how other designers are surviving in the city that perfected cool but saves its pennies for beer and cigarettes. There’s no lack of ways to showcase your wares here; with endless design markets and exhibition opportunities, but after the materialistic mindset of my hometown Sydney i wonder: where are all the consumers?? So in the interest of personal research i take it upon myself to harass some other designers from far and wide who have also been seduced by Berlin and are attempting to support themselves in this broke but sexy city…

I’d like to start with artist and designer Ebon Heath who likes to play with words in his work – in the literal sense. Read my interview with him and check out his amazing jewellery after the jump.

Mies Nobis Jewellery

Mies Nobis Jewellery

I met Mies Nobis a a few years ago at our iHeartBerlin 3rd Anniversary Dinner. Back then I got to know the charming Aussie girl as the blogger behind Mies In Berlin. Little did I know that she is also a fashion designer! Since her move to Berlin a few years back she has started her own jewellery label here. She makes amazing necklaces, bracelets and rings made of brass, silver, clay, wood and other materials. The unique pieces imitate the shape of horns and bones and have an almost tribal look, but in a very avant-garde and refined way. You can buy pieces from her new collections in her online shop or at the Sammler store here in Berlin at Mulackstrasse. Have a look at some of the photo shoots from her collections after the jump.
