Exploring Berlin Places with Jan Blomqvist & Antony Morato

Exploring Berlin Places with Jan Blomqvist & Antony Morato

Berlin is known worldwide for being home to one of the most influental and thriving scenes for electronic music and club culture. Countless musicians and DJs are based here and are successful with their productions and in the clubs, not just here in Berlin but also all over the world, often with the “Made in Berlin” seal of approval.

Jan Blomqvist is one of the young talents of Berlin’s electronic music scene that managed to stick out of the masses and within only a few years he gained a huge fanbase that reaches far beyond the city limits. He grew up with the success of legendary clubs such as Bar25 and its follow-up Kater Holzig. Now he plays in the most popular clubs in the world and at big festivals. His music is a clever fusion of melodic electro-pop, deep house and minimal techno – a combination that melted the hearts of many club goers and music lovers. His last EP was released back in July and features his summer hit Time Again which is one of his most impressive tracks to date.

We visited Jan in his studio on a lovely Autumn day and talked with him about his music and his relationship to Berlin before we went with him to explore some of his favorite places in the city. Enjoy our interview and exclusive photo series with Jan Blomqvist after the jump. We would like to give a warm thank you to Italien menswear label Antony Morato who supplied us with oufits for the photo shooting and inspired us with its #antonymoratoplaces focused on creative European cities. Enjoy the perspective on our city through the eyes of one its most promising musicians

Introducing: Her Voice Over Boys – Win tickets for Kater Holzig

Introducing: Her Voice Over Boys – Win tickets for Kater Holzig

At this year’s MELT festival I made a wonderful discovery. Saturday night at the Sleepless Floor, there was an act that almost nobody in the audience had ever heard of before. At first, people were a little skeptical about the newcomer on the stage: What is an actual live band that nobody knows doing here at prime time? But then the performance became one of those magical experiences at festivals when just everything falls into place. In the end, the whole audience was enchanted. Everyone knew they had experienced something extraordinary. And everyone kept asking: “What is the name of the band? What are they called again? Do you have the line-up to look it up?”

The name of the band is Her Voice Over Boys, they are the latest signing on Oliver Koletzki’s label Stil vor Talent. The music of Her Voice Over Boys is deeply romantic, it consists of dreamy melodies, heartfelt vocals, accessible bass lines and club-ready beats. This Sunday they are playing their Berlin debut at Kater Holzig. Their performance starts at 1 am.

Check out the music after the jump and take your chance to win 2 guestlist places.

Behind the Scenes of Fashion Week: AN!MAL

Behind the Scenes of Fashion Week: AN!MAL

This Thursday at 21h the young and wild accessory label AN!MAL will present their new collection with a fashion presentation and fashion film screening at the projektGalerie Pop-Up Shop at Gormannstr. 25 in Mitte. Last week director Emilio El-Lauren invited me to the set of the film to take a look behind the scenes and make some impressions of the filming process. I got to see a lot of hot girls in skimpy leather outfits playing kittens and crawling on the floor. The one dominant impression of the set apart from the kittens was smoke – and I can’t tell you if it was from the fact almost everyone on set was smoking or if it was just the smoke machine. Have a look behind the curtain of this production for the Berlin Fashion Week. More to come…

Pilocka Krach

This sucks. Two titans are hanging out in Berlin right now – one of them A$AP Rocky, being here for a sold out show at Festsaal Kreuzberg and Nicolas Jaar, being here for the exhibition of his father, using the opportunity to play a secret gig at the same time as Rocky. No chance to get to either one of these events and the rest of the electronic crowd hangs out in Barcelona for Sonar. We offer you parties out of this special – shit – thing, decent Berlin parties for fun loving people after the jump: Read on…

The Weekend Party Guide ( A Berliner is relaxed )

The Weekend Party Guide ( A Berliner is relaxed )

Raz Ohara

Last week a hysterical, very very fat person ( oops ) saw me queing on the loo of some club and, out of nothing, slapped my face slightly saying: I hate you. I was like yeah whatever, what is your problem anyway. She said where she comes from ( San Francisco ), people don’t have that attitude, like, they smile. You don’t want to know my answer, promise, but this is just one incident of a dozen that I have been a witness of over the years. In another Club I saw this dude trying to get into a conversation with a meanwhile quite famous female MTV presenter who didn’t really answer him cause he was drunk and not too attractive I guess. He then called her ugly bitch and sl.t and stuff like that. I mean, come on guys. Even if Berlin is a place that doesn’t seem to have any boundaries, we may not be the friendliest people of this earth, but we let others do their thing. Here you can be whatever you want to, heto, gay, a slut, bi, trans, weird, an Emo, ugly, a virgin, a hand model, a hipster, a freak, even a country boy or a conservative, or a law student: we don’t care. But don’t be surprised if a Berliner doesn’t smile. It’s not in his nature. Fun parties for friendly ( means relaxed ) people after the jump: Read on…
