Wear It Festival, unfolding the world of fashion tech in Palais Kulturbrauerei, offered a profoundly engaging and mind-expanding platform for wear it, discover it, produce it, believe it and network it, and provided a tremendously insightful two-day journey into the nature of IT. Gathering an incredible populace of participants ranging from inventors to fashion designers, from software geeks to academics, from cutting edge international companies to multimedia students, from start-ups, investors, government representatives to colorful wondering fashionistas in bling and synthetic fabrics, among others. The continuous flow of lectures in the auditorium added a few credits to your future masters degree while the foyer provided a trade fair-like exhibition of the latest merchandise and prototypes attracting future producers, collaborators and consumers.
Throughout the building the conversation continued and the visitors were drawn like moths to the numerous LED lights of high tech, brought together by workshops and free coffee and cake breaks and entertained by music and visuals. Kulturbrauerei’s scraped old walls joined in a familiar Berlin recipe with neon lights and synth sounds, but also counterpoised the sleek and refined appearance of future technology that is already happening now.

Once its own borough, the district of Prenzlauer Berg now belongs to Pankow and is located right next to Mitte and Friendrichshain. Characterized by the five-story ‘Althaus’ with a closed courtyard in the back the typical Prenzlauer Berg block is very large. The district is dominated by broad tree-lined streets with colorful boutiques, restaurants and cosy cafes attracting a mix of stay-home moms and dads, freelancers and university students alike. Prenzlauer Berg can’t deny its creative and alternatively individual vibe with parks being taken over by children’s birthday parties clearly marked by burlaps and balloons under the tree, a broad range of organic food shops, hip new juice shops and a yoga studio on almost every corner. The open air cinema season is in full bloom and this year there seem to be so many special screenings lined up – it feel almost like a renaissance for the cinema, but under the blue sky with lots of friends and not inside a dark multiplex surrounded by strangers. We love it!
July will start with a very special pop-up open air cinema: The Audi Urban Cinema was already a huge hit in the last years and now it’s back with an amazing 3-day-program at Kulturbrauerei featuring some of the biggest cinema highlights of recent time and a couple of amazing short films by upcoming film makers. From July 1-3, 2015, you can look forward to Nightcrawler, Monsieur Claude and his Daughters, and finally Wes Anderson’s last big hit The Grand Budapest Hotel. What is going to make these open air screenings so special is not just the movie selection, but also the unusual comfort you will be enjoying these movies in: Forget the improvised beer bench and plastic chair that you know from other open air screenings. You will be watching these films out of Audi cabriolets, stacked-up shipping containers decorated like cosy living rooms, or from comfy lounge chairs on the lawn. There will of course also be drinks and snacks to make your movie experience even better and the best thing: The entrance is for free, you just register over here.
