A glittering river in the sky, luminous shapes with a life of their own, playful distortions of light dancing to electronic music in black rooms – this is the world of Dark Matter, an audiovisual exhibition that aims to transport its visitors away from the outside world and into their senses.
The mastermind behind this multi-dimensional experience is light artist Christopher Bauder and his design studio WHITEvoid who also brought us DEEP WEB and SKALAR at Kraftwerk Berlin. In 2014, Bauder and WHITEvoid also marked the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with LICHTGRENZE where they presented 8,000 luminescent balloons across the city where the wall once stood.
Bauder describes Dark Matter as a kind of history exhibition of the studio’s creations over the years, featuring seven installations going as far back as 20 years ago and as recently as this year.

The Festival of Lights always stuns me with how it manages to mobilize such a huge amount of Berliners to come out of the house at night when the temperatures are already getting lower and it would just be so much more comfy to cuddle up at home. If you walk along any of the trails of the festival you will encounter so many other people walking around discovering the many light art projections all over the city it feels like the night becomes day – and a busy one at that.
Until October 14th every night from 19-23h you will be able to discover countless projections – many also animated with elaborate mappings that embrace the architecture and details – at various buildings in the city such as the TV tower, the Humboldt Forum, the Berliner Dom, several buildings around Bebelplatz, the Brandenburger Gate, the high rises at Potsdamer Platz, etc.
This year’s highlight was for sure the show at Brandenburger Gate that illustrates the cultural exchange of Berlin with the rest of the world and the 4th world championship of video mapping that you can see at the middle tower at Potsdamer Platz. For the first time, we also took the lift up to the Panorama Punkt to see everything from above. Really worth it (and open until 21h for the duration of the festival). The Festival of Lights is back! We all have seen these visuals before: Light installations with crazy patterns, shapes and graphics, or colorful 3D videos moving on Berlin monuments, sights, streets and squares, transforming places we all know too well into colorful wonderlands. For 12 years now, the Festival of Lights turns Berlin and other places around the world into visual spectacles. It’s crazy what nothing but light can do to our perception of stones and walls we pass by weekly. Despite the partial silliness of gigantic buildings like the Berliner Dom shimmering in shocking pink, plus giant rotating panda spaceman, it’s just fun to gaze at every year. The animation on the Berliner Dom and other places even have sound to them, giving you that full audio-visual experience. In case you missed your chance to see all of these glowing larger-than-life artworks on sights like the TV tower, the Humboldt University or all of Bebel Platz last year, the Festival of Light runs until Sunday, starting at 19h every day until midnight.

The end of the world can be a beautiful place sometimes. At least that’s the case for Apulia the high heel of the boot of Italy and the little village of Castro at its bottom. There you really feel you have reached the end of all the worlds you know. No big city, no hustle and bustle, no futurism, no minimalism and certainly no cold. Neither the weather nor the heart of the welcoming people cheering travelers and tourist alike.
To give you a more unconventional description for this beautiful place we had the pleasure to experience for just two days, we will tell you more about the 4 unique colors we saw.

Last Saturday night, a very special party took place to celebrate the launch of Absolut’s new limited edition called Absolut Facet. The new bottle with its mesmerizing polygon surface and its piercing cobalt blue color that was positioned right at the entrance cleverly foreshadowed what this event would be about: The diverse and unexpected facets of the night. The venue for the spectacle was the dark corridor of the basement of the Alte Münze which was built almost a century ago and used to be Berlin’s State Mint. Abandoned and forgotten for a long time the place has been used for all sorts of happenings for the past couple of years, more recently also for those kind of club nights that celebrate the liberal and free-spirited side of Berlin’s nightlife.
Being at the the Absolut Facet launch now, it was pretty astonishing to see the location under totally different circumstances. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity and excitement about the various art installations that were so diligently constructed and perfectly integrated into the raw, industrial corners of the former coin factory, that would leave me wondering if they had been there all along.

Celebrating 20 years of a company really requires something very special and what could be more special than illuminating the city? For eBay this dream birthday gift came true last night when light artist Gerry Hofstetter drove on the river Spree with his big projector and illuminated the building along the shore with iconic Berlin graphics and the eBay anniversary logo. For the people passing by this became quite the spectacle as the projections spanned entire stretches of buildings. Between the Melia Hotel at Friedrichsstraße and the Schleuse am Mühlendamm almost every building was enlightened and even though it rained so many people came or stopped to see the light installations. This Thursday evening, September 10, as it’s getting darker outside with the end of summer the Spree will be transformed into a light landscape. Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter will illuminate buildings along the Spree between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and East Side Gallery as part of eBay‘s 20 year anniversary celebrations. Internationally renown, the investment banker turned marketing consultant and artist has been transforming public buildings, monuments as well as landscapes and whole mountains since 1999, and actually this is the second time in Berlin for Hofstetter as he illuminated the Brandenburger Tor in 2005.
