Berlin is a city that ends up in smoke. No hard feelings here, if we’re being real: a cigarette with a good drink is one of the most oddly satisfying things. It is bad though. For the environment, others and mostly you. We all know this moment the next morning when smelling your hair and clothes from last night. It’s a rough one. Suddenly, all of your choices from last night are just the burn mark on your new sweater that smells like it was manufactured out of ash in a volcano. Not only non-smokers, even the toughest chain-smoker must be grossed out in this moment. Not to mention: hangovers are way harder when you didn’t only have Mr. Gin and Mr. Jack Daniels with you, but also the Marlboro Man. Or Pepe.
If you’ve had enough of all of the smoke and fire and want to burn the bad choices, we have some addresses for you where you can get a drink or dance without the fumes. Right after the jump is our list of favorite non-smoker friendly bars (which by our definition are bars that have separate smokers and non-smokers areas or are completely smoke-free). Read on…

The first of May is one of those days where i prefer to stay home, or at least in my calm neighborhood in North Mitte. Luckily through Instagram I didn’t miss a single exciting moment down at Oranienstraße, Spreewaldplatz or Holzmarkt thanks to all my blogger (and non-blogger) friends who went out into the streets to celebrate. As I’m a big fan of Instagram I collected the most fun shots of May Day in Berlin by my friends from ArtBerlin, Artschoolvets, Digitalsalad, DT64, L’Amour et la Violence, Les Berlinettes, Mit Vergnügen, Sdoeyes, Smaracuja, This Is Jane Wayne and a few more. Thanks so much for capturing these moments! Enjoy my favorite Instagrams from the first of May in Berlin after the jump.

People from all around the world say: there is no better place to be for first of May then Berlin Kreuzberg. And it is true that compared to other big street parties which are mostly horrible for me (Karneval der Kulturen is more of a tourist-trapping torture than a real party) first of May is kind of awesome. This year I spent my first of May wandering around and observing strangers and friends from above. I found a hidden staircase that brought me to the nicest rooftops of Kreuzberg and from there I could enjoy the day sitting in the clouds. And you? Where did you spend your first of May 2012? I found two very nice videos from this years celebration. One showing the open air of the Luzia team which is often called the best one among my friends, and a really impressive video from the party on the Tempeholf Airport, which seemed more like a giant music festival than a free open air. Still I am asking myself if all this partying is really contributing to a better understanding of all the cultures living in Kreuzberg. Around the Mosque at Görlitzer Bahnhof were several women with a headscarfs peacefully selling Turkish bakeries to the wandering people, that was nice for me to see. Going home a friend and I walked by some older Turkish guys selling beer. They offered it and as we declined they called us shitty faggots in Turkish. So you see there are still some steps to go towards a tolerant multi-cultural Kreuzberg. Still it was an incredibly amazing day. Enjoy these moving memories of a great day after the jump.

Only one day to go, tomorrow is casual Friday and you can wear your beanies, finally. We have tickets to win, some advice for tonight and of course for Sunday and its lost souls there is a party, too. You can practically party from tonight until Monday, but who would be that foolish? And since Bar 25 is no more, one or two days are enough I guess. Ahahaah, those guys are hanging out in Mexico now, at least now you know where the entry of the tenthousand au revoir – parties went to! Good cause, well, not for you though. Double puke, it’s there now: Christmas. And only a single day off. As usual your family will drive you crazy, mum’s favourite son will get better presents than you and the poor duck you have been eating will end up in the toilet after dinner; we don’t want to become fat, don’t we. The only way to survive all this is booze and party. A few parties for the few lost souls and homecoming Berliners will follow after the jump: Read on…

Luzia Party Open Air photo by Sel Dizman
I am in conflict with a certain party paradigma. If you go to a club in Berlin you always have the feeling that there could be another party out there which is way better than the party you are at right now. To make this uncomfortable feeling almost impossible to stand there are amazing party photographers out there capturing the atmosphere and the emotions at the amazing club nights Berlin has to offer. One of them, whos work I just discovered through my friend Eva from the blog Private Curators is Sel Dizman. He just recently shot such a great video at the first of May party at the Luzia Open Air that I had to post about him. Enjoy the great party video shot in front of the Luzia after the jump.
