Although this year it may feel like the Christmas Markets season came exceptionally early – with still no traces of snow and surprisingly mild temperatures, the festive frenzy is upon us – and we’re excited for all the Glühwein, Plätzchen and proper Christmas shopping. In this year’s guide, we’re reacquianting you with some places from last year and presenting others that are happening for the very first time.
When it comes to Christmas events, Berlin’s just as versatile as you might have expected – you’ll find a few traditional markets, some really design-oriented events, a film festival and even a masked ball.

Flowers are totally hype these days! With quite a few flower related start-ups and projects on the rise it seems they are taking over the reign from the trending positions of food delivery and dating apps of the last couple of years. The slightly antiquated job of the florist is now totally in fashion again.
Flower services such as Florale Welten, Damerius, Flowerstudio Berlin, Bloomon and many more are now reinventing the classical flower bouquet to make it into the contemporary, Instagram-worthy little pieces of art that people just can’t help but fall in love with.
Tollwasblumenmachen.de is an online magazine that is dedicated to the beauty of flowers and promotes all these little projects that we have here in Berlin. They also have a huge map and search function that let’s you find the best flower shops in your proximity.
This coming weekend they are organizing a huge Flower Market at Bikini Berlin that you shouldn’t miss. The amazing flower installation by Rebecca Louise Law in Spring showed us that flowers and the Bikini Berlin go really well together, so we are looking forward to this new flowertastic event.

Design has become an important creative field in this city – 10 years ago, making a living in the creative industry was fairly impossible. Nowadays tons of small studios, ateliers and design manufactures build businesses in town. This weekend not only do you have the chance to visit the spaces of these small studios, but you can also discover international design coming to Berlin for the DMY fair. Schöneberg, oh Schöneberg. You are underestimated. Although you have so much to offer! The late and beloved David Bowie wasn’t the only one to notice your charm, but also numerous artists such as Iggy Pop and Klaus Kinski lived in your hemisphere. There’s something about you, something mature and unagitated but still exciting. Something that feels like home yet still comes up with surprises of the unknown.
Founded as a tiny village and first documented in 1264 (that’s… a long time ago), Schöneberg was merged in 2001 with the adjacent district Tempelhof and is now called: Tempelhof-Schöneberg. We will focus on the Schöneberg-part of the district today, presenting you the best options to eat & drink, see some art, spend some leisure time in the most beautiful spots and learn something about the history of the ‘beautiful mountain’ aka Schöneberg.
FYI: Even though the district is located at a quite elevated spot, the name ‘Schöneberg’ that includes the ‘mountain-theme’ is rather a wishful-thinking-name than a geographically correct one. But who cares, right? Let’s start with our guide to Schöneberg!

Every year it’s the same: What to give your loved ones for Christmas? It’s not easy these days to find something really unique because we live in a world where everything exists a thousand times and in the end nothing is really special. But of course you want to give something that is different and special. Something that only exists one time.
This month there is a Christmas market taking place inside Bikini Berlin that took this desire to heart and specialized in one of a kind products. Here you’ll find artisanal products, garments, delicacies, design objects and so much more – but all of it is hand-made and one of a kind and not mass-produced. The idea of the market pretty much aligns itself with the concept of the Bikini Berlin, because the shops inside here are different from the highstreet chains that you’ll find in regular malls and offer unique products for the sophisticated customer.

In the past couple of days the fabulous Neue Heimat celebrated their season opening with a program full of street food, design booths, concerts and parties in their wonderful location at the area of the RAW in Friedrichshain. From now on Neue Heimat will be open from Thursdays til Sundays with live music, bars and snacks on Thursday and Friday night and street food and design markets on the weekend. Look out for special events and parties as well – this place is amping up for a fun 2015 season. We went to their new design market that has some well curated product, fashion and jewelry designers as well as artists and illustrators selling some cool stuff. The Heimat Bazaar is going to happen from now on every first Saturday of the month. Of course there is again going to be lots of street food at Neue Heimat, especially during their weekly Village Market on Sundays including newbies Tatas with their delicious waffles and their new invention the muffles, as well as awesome egg dishes from The Future Breakfast. Of course their are also the beloved favorites from last year such as the Italian sandwiches by Pic Nic 34 and the Schnitzel Burger by Schneeweiß. This year is absolutely crazy in terms of Christmas, design and foodmarkets. Never were there so many new and alternative concepts out there like this months and we think the variety is just great. We tried to go to a couple of those markets, but to be perfectly honest in a lot of cases the Christmas spirit didn’t really kick in as we hoped it would. Long lines, booths running out of food too soon, lack of Christmas decoration and some other obsticles came in our way. But there is one little market that seems to have done it all right. Thanks to the fact it’s mostly known to insiders it is not as crowded as the other so you can actually enjoy your Chrismas punch in piece and don’t have to squeeze into the last little corner of the hut.
The Winter Food Market at the Audi quattro lounge is probably one of the nicest and most carefully decorated Christmas markets I have seen this year. The round tent makes the lounge seem like a snow globe full of Christmas spirit and cosyness and there is actually a real big snowglobe inside. The lounge inside the globe tent has a lot of warm and comfortable seating to enjoy your food and drinks and outside you have some of the best street food vendors in town includng Mogg&Melzer with their delicious pastrami sandwhiches, MariaMaria Arepas with some South American flavors, Cicciolina bringing you some Italian delicacies, Suppkultur with some Holiday soups, as well as roasted almonds and chestnuts and of course lots of Glühwein, freshly prepared with spices and fruits.
And on top of that every automobile lover will get to see some of the latest Audi quattro four wheel drive technology and some of their new car models in the cleverly designed exhibition lounge. Be assured, the four wheel drive will come in handy in the German winter.
The Winter Food Market and the Audi quattro lounge will be open daily until this coming Sunday at the free space next to Tacheles in Mitte. Enjoy some impressions and the details after the jump.

Since its opening 3 weeks ago the new location Neue Heimat at the RAW grounds at Revaler Straße in Friedrichshain has been pretty much the talk of the town with its amazing street food market events on Sundays. The concept is not really new as the street food hype has already been successfully established by Bite Club and Markthalle 9. But after all of our team members have visited it in the past few weeks we agree theirs came out really nice and is a great addition to the street food event scene of Berlin. The space is just really fun to hang out, versatile in its design and so much space to sit and enjoy the delicious food which is really an advantage to some of the other street food markets. UPDATE: The Neue Heimat had to close in 2015. In 2016 the place is lead by a new team with a similar concept, but different booths and a new name. The old team of Neue Heimat is organizing food markets elsewhere.

For those of you who have grown tired of going to night clubs and after hours I have just the right type of new club for you: the Bite Club. It’s a big streetfood market taking placing at the courtyard of Arena and the Hoppetosse boat since 2013. It’s actually quite genious as you get to taste food from so many different countries all in one place. When we went there for the first time we saw Okonomiyaki from Japan, Tacos from Mexico, steamed buns from Vietnam, stuffed flatbreads from Italy, Spätzle from Swabia and much more. It’s amazing and it all looks so tasty – and as far as the dishes we got to try it also is delicious! What a great idea and we can’t wait to come here again. The next editions of the Bite Club take place twice a month on every other Friday starting May 8 until September 2015 at 16h. Some impressions after the jump.
