Since our first article about designer face masks from Berlin that came out in April and featured 7 different designers who were amongst the first to produce masks a lot has changed. The senate has imposed rules that it’s compulsory to wear masks in public transport and shops. But also many more designers have decided to create masks with their own style so we have some good looking alternatives to the self-made ones or the ugly blue hospital ones. In the end, we have to wear these on our faces, so at least they should look good somehow, right?
With so many more options on the market, we thought it’s about time to make another designer face mask guide for you. We are glad to be able to support some local small businesses with our guide and give our readers some pointers on where they can get what they need. We decided not to repeat any of the designers from our first guide as this one still is new and valid. So please see this as the second part, you can find the designers from the first part right here.

This weekend a very special workshop is happening at the amazing Urban Spree gallery in Friedrichshain where you can get your freak in the most creative way. The workshop is about creating masks from scrap material and strange objects – cleverly timed to coincide with the upcoming carnival season. Led by artist Ambra Rosedorne you will be equipped with tools and basic materials, but you also have to bring some abandoned objects that you or other participants can use for their masks. It’s definately going to be bring your creativity to the next level. Enjoy the haunting photos by Ale in Wonderland of some of the previous masks of Ambra and be inspired for your own mask creation of Saturday.

This Friday it’s time for one of the biggest masked balls in town: The famous Zinnoberball takes place every two years and is organized by students of the University of Arts (UdK) since 1954. It’s quite spectacular and I’ve made one of my all-time favorite party photo sets there 4 years ago. Last time, two years ago, we didn’t get in due to the masses of people trying to go there. So if you are a student of the UdK I would recommend you to buy your ticket in advance for the upcoming one this weekend. Everyone else should be there way early! This year it’s actually a two-day marathon starting with the first dance on Friday night, a breakfast and day program including readings, a barbie doll catwalk, live bands and visual installations on Saturday and the final big party on Saturday night. Hurrah! We are excited. More details after the jump.
