Turmspringer are one of the important acts of Berlin’s underground Techno and House scene. Although they are regularly playing in several big clubs in Europe, they never missed to come back to their mother’s kitchen to please Berlin’s spoiled and electrifying audience. Here they still attend one-of-a-kind industrial backyard parties and Berlin’s most wanted after-hours.
However, electronic music is not all Robert Galic (alias Edgar Peng aka RAS) and Tim Brüggemann (alias Didier de la Boutique) care about. In fact, both are interested in a great variety of music, and they are deeply rooted in Funk & Soul, Jazz and Afro Beat.
In our interview with Robert from Turmspringer we have talked about music by David Bowie, M.I.A., Foremost Poets, Marvin Gaye and One Hand.
As a DJ, producer and the founder of the label Stil vor Talent, Oliver Koletzki is one of most important figures in Berlin’s electronic music scene. Three years ago, he ventured into pop music with his album Großstadtmärchen. Now he released the successor Großstadtmärchen 2. The album features collaborations with artists like Jan Blomqvist, Axel Bosse, Jake the Rapper, Fran and Juli Holz. The result: electronic pop music as its best.
In our interview with Oliver Koletzki, we asked him about music by Shade Sheist, M.I.A., Nina Kraviz and David Bowie. More after the jump.
2011 is looking pretty good in terms of music releases. After I have listened to Blue Songs now for probably a million times I really needed something fresh and that’s why the new songs from Lykke Li, Bodi Bill, Patrick Wolf , M.I.A. and Beth Ditto are coming in handy. Fortunately all of them have put out a few of their songs out for free to give us a good taste of what’s to come on the full records. After the jump you’ll find the best free and legal music downloads that you shouldn’t miss.
I’m still slightly in a state of shock after seeing the new video of M.I.A. To cut it short: Born Free depicts some sort of police force hunting down and beating up people with a very bitter twist and lots of extremely (!!!) graphic violence. I can’t remember having seen an artist choosing such a drastic way to express her political views. You could say that being graphic is a bit of an easy way. But what other way is there to make people who live in cocoons of safety (like we do) realise how fucking terrifying and brutal the reality of wars, terrorism and dictatorships is. And I’m pretty sure these terrible things you see in this videos happen all around our world many times as bad as this.
It was interesting to read a few reactions to the videos. Obviously many people are offended by the violence (Yes, right, better close your eyes and go back to your cocoon). Of course it got instantly banned on video portals like YouTube. But what I found most amusing was one commentor describing Mia’s allegory with the redheads as a “goofy”. Seethe scandalous video and more press images after the jump. The new album will come out in the end of June.
The first time I heard about Amanda Blank was during the Levi´s Berlin Unbuttoned event a few months back. I actually missed the concert, but I did not miss her album which is now on rotation on the treadmill at the gym. If you like Santigold and M.I.A. then you will also like Amanda. Get a taste of her after the jump.
