Virtual Realities Film Week

Virtual Realities Film Week

On Monday a very interesting film week is kicking off at Kino Central at Hackescher Markt. It’s a special program of 11 different feature films curated by Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo that circles around the theme of identity, each of them with a different perspective on issues from love and gender to relationships, sexuality and youth. The selection of films of the Virtual Realities Film Week seems very intriguing! Read more about the concept of the film week and watch the trailers of the films after the jump.

A Trailer Feast

A Trailer Feast

I think I mentioned my obsession with trailers before. I just love watching those little movie snippets. If they are good they manage to evoke emotions and get people out of bed into the cinema. If they are bad, they can ruin the film before it starts, because they give away the twists and turns, best jokes or the ending. But especially on hungover days or days I worked all day, my attention span seems to be limited to the standard trailer duration of around 2 minutes. So I spend entire evenings in front of the computer without watching one whole film, but instead watching plenty of trailers. Here are some that I recently came across and thought were great! Hopefully the films to follow will not diappoint…

50 years of great films

50 years of great films

How many films have you seen today? Is there one you’d recommend? What will you watch next? That’s clearly festival talk. Currently it’s going on in Vienna, where the 50th issue of the film festival Viennale just started.

The Viennale was the first film festival I ever visited and also the one I still like most. That’s probably due to a variety of factors. I studied film in Vienna, so of course the festival was the highlight of the year. Not only because of the great films, but also because it really seems to change Vienna. Living there it is impossible not to notice the festival is taking place. There’s plenty of people everywhere, new venues springing up all over the city and simply something on every single night…

Ready, Set, GO!

Ready, Set, GO!

People love to compete and some would do anything to win. In movies people entering competition usually believe winning will change their life, but the way to success is long and rocky. This week I’ll take a look at what great films deal with various topics of racing toward a seemingly unreachable goal.

As I’m sure you’ve already heard iheartBerlin.de and Mobile Kino are hosting the very first Berlin Film Night, a one-night screening film festival on the topic of Berlin. Next week we will show you a selection of films visually or through it’s narration related to our beautiful city. And we are still looking for films. More after the jump.

Nightmare in Paradise!

Nightmare in Paradise!

It’s no fun sitting in the office while you know your friends are lazing around on some tropical beach, exploring exciting new cities or simply enjoying the countryside. But some vacations are not the idyllic calm we hoped for. If you don’t get along with the people you’re travelling with or some neighbour turns out to be really creepy, even a short trip can become a nightmare.

So this week a few films for those of you who won’t be leaving the office this summer…

Dance, Dance Or We Are All Lost!

Dance, Dance Or We Are All Lost!

What a joy: Wim Wender’s PINA is nominated for an Oscar award in the documentary category. Although the Oscars aren’t necessarily a symbol of artistic quality to me, I can’t deny a certain interest in those films that made it onto the short list of nominations. And PINA would actually deserve the award. On the occassion of this nomination, I’ll write about PINA and other wonderful documentaries focussing on dance this week.
