With the final photo set of our House of Haunted Hearts Halloween event we want to show you the impressions of the costume workshop with the sweet guys from Dodo Magazine. They came up with really clever and cute monster costumes and it was really a pleasure for me to see our and their readers come together to get crafty. That’s a new one even for us! Here are some before&after GIFs from the participants. Thanks a lot to the make-up team of Jenna Smith, as well as to Glacéau vitaminwater and Michelberger’s Fountain of Youth for the refreshments! If you haven’t seen them, don’t miss the photo sets of the haunted house, the party and the haunted porn booth. The workshop photos after the jump!

Halloween has been an obsession of mine since I was a pre-teen thanks to all the special Halloween episodes of all the TV shows that I was watching back than. Unfortunately at the time it was simply not common to celebrate Halloween here in Germany. So no scary costume, haunted house or trick’o’treatin’ for me, much to my disappointment. It’s only been in the last couple of years here in Berlin with all these international cultures coming together that I could finally participate in this American tradition.
This year I’m making myself a dream come true: The House of Haunted Hearts – our very own Halloween party. Of course us being I HEART BERLIN it’s not simply a party – it’s much more. Find out after the jump!

Curfew
While we normally show you short films on Sundays we are making an exception today for a special screening event series starting on Tuesday hosted by our friends from Mobile Kino and shorts.tv. Spread over several venues in different districts of Berlin they will be screening the Oscar-Nominated Short Films of 2013. As a special treat they will have the winners from last year virtually present the new films. In the first part of the screening series that happens this coming week you will get to see the 5 nomated live action films including Asad, Buzkashi Boys, Henry, Death of a Shadow and Oscar winner Curfew. The program starts on Tuesday in Mitte at Naherholung Sternchen, continues on Wednesday at Mindpirates in Kreuzberg and on Friday at Villa Neukölln before the final screening on March 31 at Babylon Mitte. We’ll give you an update about the second part – the animated films – next Sunday right here. Check out the trailers for the first batch of short films after the jump.

The temperatures are dropping, the snow is getting thicker and the events going on in Berlin are getting fewer. Still, there is quite a few nice things going on in the city. Kreuzberg Kalender is having 2 smaller events this week, the Salon Mindpirates is having his final week and then there is a series of Christmas-themed events toward the weekend. Enjoy the week in the snow! The events after the jump.

If you look at the title of this post a little closer you will notice a small change. I’ve inserted “party” to our weekly event guide, as the party guide that normally comes out on Thursday is on hiatus. As companesation I will add a few more parties for the weekend into this guide and also add them during the week when more pops up on my horizon. So enjoy the new extended event and party guide after the jump.

On Saturday we celebrated our 5th anniversary and the release of our scarf collection with Front Row Society with a big party at Naherholung Sternchen. The evening started quite early with the screening of the Berlin Film Night – a collaboration with Mobile Kino – and then quickly changed into a wild party night with DJ sets by Kool Thing, Planningtorock, Shameless/Limitless, Oh Mehr, Lidl Bromance and surprise guest DJ Katja a.k.a. Glamcanyon. We had a great night and I was really happy so many of you came! Thanks for the support by Pampero Colectivo, as well as the Fountain of Youth and Red Bull. The impressions on 4 pages with a couple of animations after the jump.

This week is going to be quite busy for me as I will put all my energy in the preparations of our big 5th Birthday Party on Saturday that you should all come to! It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m crazy excited because it really is a very special occasion for me. In other news: It’s Social Media Week. Another of those weeks. But we are a blog and have our asses deep down in Facebook, Twitter and whatnot so we are actually affected. What else is going on? Find out after the jump.
