It wouldn’t be New Year’s if there wouldn’t be some sort of review, look back or highlights list on here. Well, I’ve never been so crazy about these kinds of blog posts, but to be honest, this year was special for us. It’s been a big year for us and that’s mostly thanks to all the articles we’ve posted this year. In fact some of them were so successful that they enabled us the biggest audience we’ve ever had. So we wondered, which ones were those and why were they so attractive for our readers? Well, the results do give us answers and we want to share that with you, of course. So here it goes, our big round-up of 2015 in blogposts…

“Are they masturbating?” I asked the artist Luisa Pohlmann when I first saw her new magnificent photorealistic portrait series of paintings showing women washing themselves and enjoying apparently whatever they were doing. But the answer to my unsolicited and quiet indiscrete question was neither a yes or no but rather a smile of the artist. Maybe my phantasies to her works that will be presented in a solo exhibition opening next Monday are way to concrete for the subtle art of Pohlmann.
The exhibition WASCHTAG leads us into a world of images that illustrate both processes of outer cleaning, as well as inner purification (maybe of a very dirty fantasy). The beautiful portraits of young women, oil on canvas or on paper, who act in various poses, sometimes with inward attention, sometimes in direct contact with the viewer, but always with great intensity. We encounter female characters, who, by being focused entirely on themselves – on their innermost being, reveal themselves to the viewer. Their authenticity gives them beauty inside as well as outside but also strength that arises from their personal confrontation with their inner self. See an exclusive preview of her unique work after the jump and find out more infos about the exhibition.

One of the best parts about coming to Berlin is the opportunity to meet new people. Berlin has so many wonderful people living here or passing through. And for a lot of people who visit or live here, this is what makes the city special to them. The openness, the diversity, the beauty of the difference.
For Czech artist Martin Gabriel Pavel it must have felt exactly like that. And he thought to himself: What better way to meet new people in Berlin than taking pictures of them naked? Yes, in any other city you would probably not have a lot of success, but here everything is possible. Daily Portrait Berlin is a kind of chain reaction started by Martin and now living a life of its own. He started the process by taking a picture of Elle in her apartment. Naked. She than took his camera and made a photo of M, who in turn took a photo of Jonathan, and so on. The next one in line can be a friend or a stranger. He or she doesn’t have to be naked. It could be you. See a selection of the results of the series of 365 photos below and follow the project on here.

Some people come to Berlin to do an internship in a PR agency, others come to start their own fashion label, some come to study psychology, others come to just party all weekend, And than there are those who come to play guitare music in the street – naked, with a horse mask. Carl Tomich from Australia definately belongs to the later group and if you were lucky enough you might have caught one of his naked performances here in the city back in the summer or even recently when the weather was decent, as many eager Instagramers captured.
While it is true that the naked horse (or #TheNeighKidHorse as he calls himself more correctly) is making music in the streets he is not actually a musician, but a journalist and film maker and his performances are not really meant to be his choice of lifestyle but and experiment and form of promotion for a documentary called Busking for Berlin that he shot here to shed some light on the lives of some of the street musicians of Berlin and their stories. Enjoy the film and more info after the jump.

At first glance, what captured my attention about Viktoria Modesta was the look in her eyes—they’re alluring, burning with ambition and sex appeal—and then, as the camera pans down in the music video for her single Prototype, I noticed something strange. A needle held by surgical-gloved hands rose into the air, as did a gleaming knife marked in red, while she sat there in her thrown, surrounded by red-robed characters. We go on to discover that she sports a prosthetic left leg, seen as a source of power and revolution throughout the music video, which was made for Channel 4’s Born Risky campaign set to challenge society’s stereotypes. And she does exactly that, strutting and dancing with a with a Swarovski leg and a bionic leg that gives Lady Gaga a run for her money, as the story raises her to a higher power, worshipped by the younger generation in secrecy. Many girls grow up dreaming of becoming pop stars, complete with a media-generated idea of the perfect body image. And now British singer, songwriter and model Viktoria Modesta is here to stomp all over that. Check out this rising star and fashion muse with her iconic leg, as well as the music video for Prototype after the jump.

This heat is getting on everybody’s nerves who has to sit in front of a computer and can’t escape the city and venture to cooling lakes. To support the poor ones in the offices we picked some very special eye candy that will make you feel hot and cold at the same time. In the photo series Ecce Homo Berlin-based photographer Evelyn Bencicova shot naked bodies in a quite artistic way. The depicted faceless nudity doesn’t feel to me in any way pornographic, but shows the sublime beauty of the human body in all its forms. Enjoy the photos after the jump.

My first thoughts when I considered going to the Le Petit Pö pool party at the Bar 25 Spa were that a) I should not have any kind of cake for breakfast on Sunday and b) that I should go to the gym before. Well, too bad that the Cupcake Lady decided to give me some cheesecake and banana bread for free that morning, just to torture me. She knows I won’t say no. And secondly what was I expecting to change with one day at the Gym? Well, at least I went…
So, at the party we got what the flyer promised. Sexy people splashing in the pool, a champagne bar, a BBQ and a cute little dancefloor with Disco music. Some more impressions after the jump. They involve some raunchy positions…
