It’s that time of the year again! After we’ve already had some little snowflakes, the first official Christmas weekend lays ahead of us. And instead of wondering where the time and year has gone so quickly, we’re so looking forward to some Glühwein, Plätzchen and proper Christmas shopping. Because the best places to find unique gifts and delicious Christmas treats are of course the numerous Christmas and design markets around town.

And because the cold Christmas season is not only about us, but about neighborly love and solidarity; we added some nice charity markets to our selection, so you can not only enjoy for yourself, but also give back something. So here are the best tips to fully embrace one of our favorite German Christmas Tradition: The Christmas Market!

Forever Now Festival – A Transformational Journey

Forever Now Festival – A Transformational Journey

Going with the sense of time, a first-ever new festival is coming to Neue Heimat in the beginning of September with one question in mind: What makes one’s life worth living? How can we help to shape and transform our future to form a society that we want to live in? It’s about you as an individual, us as a culture and the society we’re living in. The organizers of the new Forever Now Festival created a line-up that approaches this topic from different angles – from interactive sessions to talks, music and food. Read more about it after the jump and find our how to win festival passes.

YO! SISSY – The Queer Music Festival of Berlin

What happens, when a pair of big nightlife makers of Berlin get together and create something new: Exactly, something bigger! And so goes the story of Sampson who has been running his crazy karaokee night Cherry-o-kie now for years and PANSY who has taken Berlin’s party scene by storm with her gay R’n’B party Sissy and her PANSY presents… drag extravaganzas. Those two crazy kids have teamed up to create YO! SISSY – Berlin’s first queer music festival which started back in July 2015. With a massive line-up of over 50 acts the festival took over the venues Schwuz, Neue Heimat and SO36 bringing together the diversity and creativity from all over the world onto the stages of Berlin. We are super excited about this new festival because it’s the first of its kind here in Berlin and it’s fresh and edgy and full of potential. We can’t wait for the much hyped third edition with Planningtorock, Chicks on Speed, Vitalic, Lotic and many other great acts happening from July 28 til 29, 2017. Watch out for the Yo Sissy market happening on Saturday during the day which is also gonne be with free entrance for everyone. Get your tickets and info here!

The season of skulking through the dark nightclubs and dirty bars of Berlin is over, guys! It’s time to go outside and enjoy the sun. Well, we might not have a very long and intense summer here in Berlin (sadly). But those golden days that we get, we like to use as much as we can. And where do we like to go? The Heimat Bazaar & Street Food Market at Neue Heimat

The Heimat Bazaar & Street Food Market at Neue Heimat

In the past couple of days the fabulous Neue Heimat celebrated their season opening with a program full of street food, design booths, concerts and parties in their wonderful location at the area of the RAW in Friedrichshain. From now on Neue Heimat will be open from Thursdays til Sundays with live music, bars and snacks on Thursday and Friday night and street food and design markets on the weekend. Look out for special events and parties as well – this place is amping up for a fun 2015 season. We went to their new design market that has some well curated product, fashion and jewelry designers as well as artists and illustrators selling some cool stuff. The Heimat Bazaar is going to happen from now on every first Saturday of the month. Of course there is again going to be lots of street food at Neue Heimat, especially during their weekly Village Market on Sundays including newbies Tatas with their delicious waffles and their new invention the muffles, as well as awesome egg dishes from The Future Breakfast. Of course their are also the beloved favorites from last year such as the Italian sandwiches by Pic Nic 34 and the Schnitzel Burger by Schneeweiß. Season Opening of the Neue Heimat – Photos

Yesterday the streetfood temple Neue Heimat celebrated their summer Season Opening. Thanks to all the great visitors the place is going to be open from Thursdays to Sundays from now on – that means finally during the week as well! This add-on was and still is celebrated with lots of highlights during the Easter weekend.

The kick-off was made by Dutch singer Qeaux Qeaux Joans who presented her second album “The Ritual” being accompanied by the Berliner Camerata. The combination of classic, pop and electronic elements paired with her voice created a great atmosphere among the audience sitting and standing around her. Just as the little orchestra helped her sometimes similar voice to Banks or Leslie Clio creating new worlds of sound. Once again food lovers could indulge at the wine or oyster bar, as well as at one of the many great food-stalls. Afterwards Natalia Escobar and Adeline provided the appropriate beats at the turntables. We definetly recommend you to stop by during the Easter weekend to enjoy the special program they have put together.

A Christmas & Design Market Guide to Berlin

The holiday season is upon us, and the atmosphere in Berlin couldn’t be more unique and lively this time of year, thanks to the gorgeous Christmas markets sprawled across the city. Whether you’re in search of the perfect gift or just want to be a part of the festivities, it goes without saying that Christmas markets are a fundamental part of the German holiday tradition. From one end of Berlin to the other, you will find a profusion of markets in various sizes with varying products. So how do you choose the ones worth visiting? Welcome to the Neue Heimat

Welcome to the Neue Heimat

Since its opening 3 weeks ago the new location Neue Heimat at the RAW grounds at Revaler Straße in Friedrichshain has been pretty much the talk of the town with its amazing street food market events on Sundays. The concept is not really new as the street food hype has already been successfully established by Bite Club and Markthalle 9. But after all of our team members have visited it in the past few weeks we agree theirs came out really nice and is a great addition to the street food event scene of Berlin. The space is just really fun to hang out, versatile in its design and so much space to sit and enjoy the delicious food which is really an advantage to some of the other street food markets. After the jump we have some impressions of the location during its Street Food Sunday market. Enjoy!

UPDATE: The Neue Heimat had to close in 2015. In 2016 the place is lead by a new team with a similar concept, but different booths and a new name. The old team of Neue Heimat is organizing food markets elsewhere.
