Last week I had the pleasure to go on a little trip to beautiful Munich to join the press conference of Huawei who launched their brand new smartphone, the Mate 9. Much to my surprise the event that gathered journalists from all over Europe started with the reveal of a quite prestigious collaboration of the Chinese smartphone giant: They teamed up with none other than German car manufacturer Porsche to create a special edition of the Mate 9 that is as beautiful and fast as the famous car itself.
I was quite impressed with this because Porsche is one of the most respected and most beloved luxury cars in the world and to make a phone in collaboration with them is pretty awesome. Most new phones that come out don’t have anything special to offer other than that they are superior to previous phones which is pretty much a given I think. Even the new iPhone didn’t have anything revolutionary going for it except that it is better than its predecessor. So are collaborations with other iconic brands the way to go from now on? It does make sense and in the case of Huawei and Porsche it certainly looks like a clever move.
We had the chance to play around with the new Mate 9 a bit and we thought what could be a better test object than an actual Porsche. So we took the phone to one of our favorite places for amazing cars in Berlin: The Classic Remise in Moabit. This depot for luxury classic cars is a mecca for car lovers and of course it’s full of Porsches (amongst other prestigious brands of course).

Vintage and nostalgia are common hobbies for Berliners who love to remember and dwell in the good old times of the turbulent but also radiant history of our beloved city.
Besides the love for good vintage fashion and design there is probably no other passion ranking so high lately than oldtimer cars. But it’s actually silly to call it a revival. As long as I can remember everybody stopped and watched in amazement when a vintage automobile passed by on the streets of Berlin. Like a time machine they throw our imagination back to the past. To an era where artisanal work and industrial design perfection were working hand in hand.
The perfect chance to discover the most awesome oldtimers in Berlin is the upcoming fair Motorworld Classic. Inside the enormous and beautiful fair building from the 30s in the West of Berlin, you will be able to discover everything related to classic cars, young timers, connoisseur-cars, motorbikes and many curiosities. Taking place from October 6th to 9th 2016, this second edition of the oldtimer fair will bring plenty of amazing automobile history highlights to Berlin.
Classic car clubs and private sellers will present and sell their products there. Many chances for awesome photos with the best of automobile design history awaits you.
After the jump we collected some of the highlights of this special event in pictures.

I always like to refer to Berlin as a playground for grown-ups. Here you can easily try out new things, start new projects and experiment with crazy ideas. You will find lots of enthusiastic people willing to get involved, the resources are amazing and diverse and since Berliners are so curious to discover new things you will quickly find a willing and attentive audience. People here have a certain understanding that some things are a work in progress. Some experiments will thrive, others might not work out, but you won’t fall very hard, because the playground has a very soft floor made of sand.
Last week I met one man here, that totally takes advantage of the playfulness of Berlin and its curious audience. He woke up one day with the dream that he wanted to be a drummer. He was often involved with musicians and rock bands, spending time with them backstage, but in terms of his own musical skills he is a complete novice. Let’s face it: Playing the drums is really difficult to learn. But he saw it as a challenge and decided to make a project about it: The Drummer was born. The Drummer is not simply a nickname for him, it’s also the quest of learning this instrument in only one and a half years, and it’s going to be the name of his band that he is about to form.

Oh, the bliss. Your parents are in town, visiting you, worrying about your hygiene at home and the number of emptied out wine bottles in the hallway. Since you don’t want them to also see your questionable choice of clothes it’s time to get them out of your place into the world.
But what to do?
Your usual hangouts are not exactly what you want them to see, probably. Although the Späti around the corner has a very nice owner, and KitKat Club has really good drinks – it’s not really SFP (safe for parents). There must be other things to do with your parents that both parties – you and them – will enjoy. Luckily, we picked 10 things to do with your parents! Here are 10 spots and places to experience beyond Brandenburger Tor and Siegessäule that close the generation gap.
We arranged them in parts – daytime, evening and nightlife, so you have experiences for pretty much every part of the day. Get some inspiration after the jump. Read on…

If you think the Tempelhof Airport is the only airport in and around Berlin that has found a new meaning and a second life, you probably haven’t heard of the former military airport of Finowfort that is about an hour outside of Berlin near Eberswalde. I first heard of this airport through our blogger colleagues from Dandy Diary who shot the lookbook for their amazing travel backpack with Harris Tweed and Johnnie Walker Black Label there a couple of months ago. In the haunting photos you see what looks like an abandoned old airport with a couple of overgrown hangars and rusty old military planes. In fact the airport is not quite as dead as it looks in the photos from the lookbook as it is home to an airport museum showing a lot of classic small planes and technical equipment of the old airport. They also host a couple of special events over the course of the year such as old timer fairs and car races, miniature plane model conventions and more. I think the place has a lot to offer in terms of stunning visuals and interesting historic memories. Check out some impressions from the airport including some of the lookbook photos from the Dandy Diary backpack.

My trip to Monte Carlo to the Louis Vuitton Classic Serenissima Run was in a way a time travel in two directions. On the one hand the beautiful oldtimer cars that took part in this prestige race from Monaco to Venice transported me back into the past when car design was not a slave to aerodynamics and efficiency. On the other hand the drivers of the cars, mostly mature gentlemen and their wives, gave me a vision of a future – an age where priorities shift from coolness and sex appeal to elegance and class. But my visit to the French Riviera had more in store for me than that. Read more about an amazing experience after the jump.
