GERMAN-NESS: A Web Show about Berlin

GERMAN-NESS: A Web Show about Berlin

We’ve come across quite few web shows about Berlin in recent years, but for us GERMAN-NESS might be the best one so far. Former MTV host Claire Oelkers is the face of the show that uncovers not only the beauty and uniqueness of Berlin, but also other German cities. In several episodes she meets unique characters such as musicians, photographers, artists and entrepreneurs and spends a day with them discovering the city through their eyes. The makers of GERMAN-NESS describe their format as an alternative city guide which is what initially attracted us. And that description is pretty spot on, because in this show you will discover a lot of things about Berlin that are far off the beaten tracks and that even I haven’t heard of before. I like how host Claire remains charming with a hint of German reservedness that leaves the spotlight for the guest of the episode.

Sexy Berlin – A Contemporary Guide to the Erotic Side of Berlin

Sexy Berlin – A Contemporary Guide to the Erotic Side of Berlin

With our beloved Mayor Klaus Wowereit leaving his post it also seems that his once so popular slogan “Berlin is poor but sexy” seems no longer suitable. Berlin is still not exactly rich, but with the development of the past 5 years you can’t simply label it as poor – “It’s complicated” would describe it more appropriately. But one thing is sure: Berlin is still damn sexy. And that’s not just because of all the ridiculously hot bearded guys and cute girls in town. It’s because Berlin is still one of the most sexually liberal, expressive and diverse cities you will come across on this planet. It’s ruthlessness, mysteriousness and unexpectedness is what draws so many people here and gives them the pleasure of a lifetime.

To celebrate Berlin’s sexiness we compiled a contemporary guide to the erotic side of Berlin featuring all the sexy places in town including shops, parties, galleries and activities. And for the new Mayor we have a suggestions for Berlin’s next slogan: “Cool and sexy”.

WE ARE BERLIN – A Group Exhibition presented by iHeartBerlin

Berlin is not made of its museums and monuments. It’s not defined by its architecture or geographical features. Berlin is not only about its history or its bad weather. Berlin is not Germany, it’s the entire world in one place. Berlin is made of the diverse, colorful, creative, grumpy, carefree, poor, hard-working, clueless, happy and lost people that live here. We are Berlin.

Today we would like to proudly announce our new group exhibition WE ARE BERLIN that will be open to the public from September 17th til 24th 2014 at a brand new venue at Leipziger Straße 60 with a big exhibition party happing on Saturday, September 20th 2014, in conjunction with our 7th Anniversary Party. The exhibition brings together the works of many of the creative talents that we have featured here and worked with over the past 7 years, as well as contribitions of our fellow bloggers including iGnant, Dandy Diary, Pieces of BerlinFinding Berlin, Paperboats and Pornceptual.  More about it after the jump.

Flirting in Berlin: Fashion Week ist Flirting Week

Flirting in Berlin: Fashion Week ist Flirting Week

photo: Oliver Rath

Fashion Week is coming up and even if you are not so involved in the whole circus you must have realized by now that there are so many things going on where you can potentially meet someone unexpected. This makes Fashion Week the perfect playground for flirting if you take care of some basic fliriting rules.

First of all you should get rid of the prejudice that fashionistas are somehow an entirely different species that is just living off designer brands and beauty products. Most nice fashionable people have a lot of other interests, can discuss politics and social inequality and spend their weekends in their sweatpants just like everybody else. It’s somehow typical for people in Berlin to believe that just because somebody likes to be well groomed and dressed up it means he or she is shallow and stupid. Having that in mind my first and most important recommendation that I also give in any of my other flirting guides: Leave your narrow minded judgements on other people at home and combine a nice dose of openess with a charming outift if you want to get laid or just have a nice flirt.

So many of my friends apparently got lucky during Fashion Week that maybe you don’t even need so many instructions to enjoy all the parties and beauty. Still I think there are some flirtation Faux Pas that could/should be avoided. Read my advice after the jump.

The Survival of the Prettiest? – The Berlin Zombie Kids

The Survival of the Prettiest? – The Berlin Zombie Kids

Last night I had a friendly party smalltalk with a woman who is writing her thesis about vagina design. She informed me about the cultural implications of plastic surgery down under and about the latest trends of vagina aesthetics (not the biggest expert in the matter). You can read some of her ideas in the article she wrote for the Berlin newspaper Der Freitag.

What I found quite interesting is that a vagina plastic surgery could cause infertility and definitely more pain and problems during pregnancy. Interesting because a designed vagina may improve your sex life (really???) but not your procreation. Beauty trends that work against procreation are something I am really interested in. Is the prettiest cunt the one getting the most love and attention and from a Darwinist point of view has the biggest chance of survival? Why I think that might be true for Beverly Hills but definitely not for Berlin, where beauty always has something to do with destruction, after the jump.
