Olympus Photography Playground Berlin 2014

Olympus Photography Playground Berlin 2014

If there is one thing going on in Berlin right now that I recommend to absolutely everyone doing it’s this year’s edition of the Olympus Photography Playground that’s currently taking place at the Opernwerkstätten. What it is is a big exhibition with nine amazing artworks by international artists AlexandLiane, 3Destruct [ANTIVJ], Clemens Behr, Dean Chamberlain, Leandro Erlich, Philip Beesley, Anna Bruns & Thomas Brown, Transforma and Maser that are actually more than artworks, they are entire sets. And the fun part about it, is that you can walk into these sets and do something that so many exhibition in museums and galleries strictly forbid: taking photos. And boy is this fun. You can either focus on the artwork and explore it from every angle with your camera, or you can jump into the picture and become a part of the artwork yourself. Let’s call this #artselfie.

To give you the best possible experience at the Olympus Photography Playground you can borrow one of the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 cameras for the exhibition and keep the SD card afterwards. Last week I took a bunch of friends to the opening and we all tried out one of these babies. While the design is reminescent of old analog cameras, the technology is slick and new. This system camera has way to many great features for me to name here, but the one that I enjoyed the most was the wireless transfer of the photos directly onto my smartphone so I could post them on Instagram. What a blessing!

After the jump you can enjoy some of our photos that we took with these super cool cameras. If you wanna play around yourself you still have time until May 25 daily from 11-19h (also on the Easter holidays). In addition to the exhibition there is also a program of panel talks, workshops and live sessions for you to enjoy.

Preview 2013 – Young Art: A Review

Preview 2013 – Young Art: A Review

Every year it’s the same thing with the art week. There is always some job or some trip that I have to go on that leaves me only one day to visit only one of the many amazing art events and exhibitions. And for some reason this ends up always being the opening night of the Preview. And it makes a lot of sense: As with fashion I am particularily excited about young talents. And this is exactly what I will find en mass at the Preview art fair. This year it was the same, only in a new location: The amazing Opernwerkstätten at Nordbahnhof. Enjoy my little review of the fair after the jump with my favorite pieces of art.

Pret A Diner at Opernwerkstätten

Pret A Diner at Opernwerkstätten

We’ve been following the pop-up restaurant Pret A Diner now for a few years already. They have been opening up in Berlin during Berlin Fashion Week for the last couple of seasons, but also had pop-ups in other cities all over the world. I always liked their interesting set-ups and creative menues, but I must say, this time, they have out-done themselves. The location, the old Opera workshop at Zinnowitzer Str. in Mitte is absolutely stunning and the set-up is especially nice this time. They teamed up with Circle Culture Gallery who have a very good urban and contemporary art exhibition going on there. They also have cute little thrift-store-esque shop that features items from all the places in the world they have opened up in. It’s really charming.

And now to the food. Wow! They offer a 3 course menue for 55 EUR with lots of options. They seperate courses start are 15-20 EUR which is really fair considering the style and quality of the dishes. The US filet steak is the best steak I had in Berlin so far, it’s so good you will be out of words. I also enjoyed the ox cheeks and the cod, they are amazing (and I normally don’t eat fish!). The best dessert is the “Zimtblüte”, at the opening I ate like 4 of them, so good.

In addition to the amazing location, exhibition, shop and food they also offer an entertainment program with live music on Thursdays and special events and parties on the weekend. Next week they will host the 1st anniversary of the Berlin Film Society with a special screening and dinner. More on that in our eventguide.

If you like good food and want to enjoy it in a very unique and impressive set-up you should definately make a reservation at the current edition of Pret A Diner. You will love it! It’s still going on until the end of Febuary. Enjoy my impressions after the jump.
