A Natural Workout in the Parks & Playgrounds of Berlin

A Natural Workout in the Parks & Playgrounds of Berlin

Are you one of those people who have a contract for a gym and hardly ever go there? Especially at the beginning of the year, people have the intention to work on their body, preparing for summer. But let’s be honest: when the summer is finally there, who wants to still go to the stuffy, stinky gym? We think there are better options to do a body workout than going into a studio.

There are many options to train your body, fitness trends like Yoga, Pilates, Crossfit… But did you ever try Natural Movement? Sounds like something you can only do in the wilderness, but hold on, Berlin also has its spots for this! Natural Movement offers you to explore your body’s full range of motion and agility. By practicing, you will start to gain the skills, strength and condition essential to adapt and perform in any environment. And please, don’t worry to look like a little monkey, we love monkeys!

Berlin Block Tetris

Berlin Block Tetris

Today we dug up an oldie but goodie for you to brighten up your Friday. I always like to call Berlin a playground and this video by Sergej Hein pretty much materializes this sentiment about the city. In his little short film he recreated the classic Nintendo Gameboy game Tetris with Berlin’s typical “Neubaublock” buildings. It’s such a simple, yet effective idea and so fun to watch. It perfectly represents the development of the city in a way: It happens at first slowly and more considered, but also a little random and than more and more hectic with lots of wrong decisions until it ends in one strange big mess that has a couple of holes. I wonder if Hein foresaw some of the things that were going on in Berlin since he made this video 6 years ago. Enjoy it after the jump.

Choose Your Fate – A Berlin Song

Choose Your Fate – A Berlin Song

In his new cute little pop song Choose Your Fate local musician Max Koffler describes Berlin as a place where you can air your brain and as a playground for people to enjoy. I really share this sentiment about Berlin and often also use the term playground to explain the city to people when they ask me about it. I have met so many people who have come here from different places and circumstances that were somehow frustrating for them for a variety of reasons. Somehow Berlin became a haven for people who come here to be able to breath, live and be creative or just do nothing and relax. I know the city is changing and picking up the pace with other big cities in Europe. But I genuinly hope that somehow Berlin will remain some kind of playground for us. Enjoy the song and video and a little GIF right after the jump.

Olympus Photography Playground Berlin 2014

Olympus Photography Playground Berlin 2014

If there is one thing going on in Berlin right now that I recommend to absolutely everyone doing it’s this year’s edition of the Olympus Photography Playground that’s currently taking place at the Opernwerkstätten. What it is is a big exhibition with nine amazing artworks by international artists AlexandLiane, 3Destruct [ANTIVJ], Clemens Behr, Dean Chamberlain, Leandro Erlich, Philip Beesley, Anna Bruns & Thomas Brown, Transforma and Maser that are actually more than artworks, they are entire sets. And the fun part about it, is that you can walk into these sets and do something that so many exhibition in museums and galleries strictly forbid: taking photos. And boy is this fun. You can either focus on the artwork and explore it from every angle with your camera, or you can jump into the picture and become a part of the artwork yourself. Let’s call this #artselfie.

To give you the best possible experience at the Olympus Photography Playground you can borrow one of the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 cameras for the exhibition and keep the SD card afterwards. Last week I took a bunch of friends to the opening and we all tried out one of these babies. While the design is reminescent of old analog cameras, the technology is slick and new. This system camera has way to many great features for me to name here, but the one that I enjoyed the most was the wireless transfer of the photos directly onto my smartphone so I could post them on Instagram. What a blessing!

After the jump you can enjoy some of our photos that we took with these super cool cameras. If you wanna play around yourself you still have time until May 25 daily from 11-19h (also on the Easter holidays). In addition to the exhibition there is also a program of panel talks, workshops and live sessions for you to enjoy.

Invisible Playground

The city as a giant playground? I think that’s more than just a fantasy in times of alternative reality games and the street running movement. This morning I was introduced to a less live threatening and perhaps nicer approach to urban fun I by a charming philosophy professor on the subway. He is part of a movement called invisible playground. They are designing urban games especially for Berlin. You want to play? Then you should check out the 100grad festival at Hau this weekend. You can read more on when and where the games start here. A nice video of one of their games after the jump.
