I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – as much as I appreciate Berlin’s party culture, I find it a shame that while sex and drugs seem to be all the rage, the rock’n’roll part is usually replaced with techno. It just doesn’t seem right when you consider the tremendous legacy of our Hauptstadt as the place where David Bowie used to share a flat with Iggy Pop and where he was inspired to record his astounding Berlin Trilogy. In fact, many other rock musicians followed into the footsteps of the late Starman and acknowledged Berlin as an inexhaustible source of creative energy, be it for its unique atmosphere or poignant history.

Electronic music seems to pulsate through Berlin’s veins like a never-ending energy flow. A rhythm that has been pushing the city and its people forward for decades, four-to-the-floor, one bass drum at a time. Berlin is a place where raves are endless, where nights become days, and you can lose yourself between beats and lights. Often, the music on the dance floor becomes an energetic swirl. There are bands whose names you never really noticed, but their songs have long been favorites on your playlist. That was the case with the Amplifetes. In anticipation of the concert I was surprised how many songs of the Swedish band I already knew without having consciously heard the name of the band before. The highlight of the evening was certainly when the ceiling decoration, that probably had come loose by heat, flew as a giant mass of black balloons over the crowd and danced with the people. A wonderful evening with beautiful music and beautiful people thanks to the team of Qubique. As a start of series of side events under the title Design Meets Music, there are certainly more good nights to be expected. More impressions after the jump.
