This hefty statue is an anti-war protest and a loud, unapologetic celebration of love, which are two things we’re totally into at iHeartBerlin. Better still, there’s more to it than meets the eye – beyond its simple yet enticing form and the significant message, this piece of work will amaze you in more ways than one.
What does the ”Fuck War” statue actually stand for? According to its creators from AKT Jewels, a Geneva-based team consisting of engineers, designers, and craftsmen, it’s supposed to be ”a way to turn war into a laughing stock”. The creators also maintain the piece is inspired by a quote from an iconic figure that incidentally has a special connection with Berlin – Iggy Pop.

For the most time of the year we shut up about our love for movies showing naked skin, pleasure and lust. But there is one week where this is different and we’re out and proud, unapologetically screaming: I LOVE PORN! It’s the time of the Pornfilmfestival Berlin every year in the fall, showcasing other visual presentations of sex and love that are not degrading, insensitive or only representing one niche of the sexual spectrum. It’s the one week a year we can hardly wait for – a whole week fueled with films, panels, readings and performances that explore sexual perspectives outside of social norms, construed identities and morals.

‘Tis the season! Once a year, Berlin becomes the host for a film festival of a different kind. So all of you sexy people, sex lovers and kinky minds beware. While the Venus Sex Fair focuses on the kind of Porn that is rather sexist, the Porn Film Festival offers an alternative to normative stereotypes. In Germany’s oldest cinema, the Moviemento, they show serious documentaries about the work and life in the sex industry. They show movies with a more humorous approach to sex, with conceptual aesthetics and extraordinary stories. Pornographic films can be more than mainstream. The ones shown during this festival are all about authentic lust, sexy non-normative bodies, queer sex and erotic encounters between emancipated individuals with empowering narratives.
There are stories about fetishes, about homosexual pleasure and intimacy as well as short movies about the lives of refugees. Sexual assault and trauma are another aspect of sexuality that the festival also addresses. Wherever there is sex there is also issues of power and dominance. Where there is intimacy there can be pain and it is especially significant how this film festival gives a holistic view on sexuality with all its extremes. The dark ones as well as the euphoric ones. Besides showing movies the festival also offers a great range of events all focusing on sex, porn and politics. There are workshops, panels, readings and performances. Get a first glimpse here.

Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day and especially on the weekend I like to celebrate it in all it’s glory: Eggs, avocado, granola, fruits, milk, honey. What a lovely feast. And there is basically only one thing to make it even sweeter: combining it with the second best thing that you can do on a Sunday morning: Sex. The following video must have been the result of a particularly hungry and horny morning session of photographer Mikel Marton. I came across it a while ago during my research for the trailers of the last Berlin Porn Film Festival and I was basically just waiting for the right moment to serve this to you. But I guess today is as good a day as any. So here comes the hottest breakfast session ever in the form of this super sensual artsy video. Enjoy!

When we call that one week, when all the fashion events and fairs take place, Fashion Week, and the week with all the art fairs and exhibition Art Week, shouldn’t we also call the week when the sex fair Venus with all its satellite events is happening the Berlin Sex Week? It would make a lot of sense, right? But why doesn’t anybody call it that way? I definitely have talk to the new major about this issue.
Anyway, there is one event during that week that we don’t consider extremely sexist and inappropriate and that is the Porn Film Festival – a quite alternative cinematic view on porn that focuses on sexual experiences that empower individuals to make their own decisions and choices free of social stigma. Our friends from Pornceptual have been part of it with their movies that explore diverse representations of sexuality in artwork that intersects with pornography. Apart from some really hot movies the festival also shows some really serious documentaries featuring the life of sex workers. But where there is good porn, humor is not too far away. So expect to laugh your ass off at some of the movies. The Porn Film Festival Berlin takes place once a year in the Fall. After the jump you find the trailers of movies that have been shown at the festival. Have fun!

When I went to the Berlin Porn Film Festival for the first time a couple of years ago I was nervous. Of course I pretended to be super cool and calm, but when I walked into the Moviemento I did have a bit of a weird feeling and wasn’t sure what to expect.
It didn’t help that everyone in the cinema seemed to know each other and the bar was dark and red, but I fought my way to a seat and actually really enjoyed the documentary I saw. It was a film by Rosa von Praunheim, and until today I have not made it to a public porn film screening but who knows, this might be the week that changes…
