Pornceptual is launching its fourth magazine issue FUCK 2020 – a sentiment many of us can relate to – bringing us inclusive pornographic artwork by over 100 contributors from 33 countries and 5 continents.
Without a doubt, the pandemic has had a profound impact on our relationship with intimacy, human touch, and sex this past year. Through the lens of pornography and art, FUCK 2020 explores such topics by providing a platform to artists whose voices are not always heard, especially as the threat of online censorship continues to grow.
“Although turbulent, last year was historic, but sex was not always part of the narrative,” wrote the Pornceptual editorial team. “We can’t let these stories be forgotten, in particular the ones of marginalized sexualities.

The lockdown has really put a damper on the sexual expression of Berliners in a major way. Unless you are lucky to live with your partner or with a flatmate with benefits your sex life most likely had to take a back seat in the last weeks. No Tinder or Grindr dates, no hooking up in bars, no kinky adventures in Berlin’s nightclubs. You really have to get creative to get your sexual kicks these days or at least seek some inspiration on any sex toy site of choice.
Our friends from Pornceptual were struck really badly by the pandemic. Their parties are on hold until further notice, and the WHOLE festival which they co-organize has been canceled for this year. But like many creative people in the city, the quarantine has also created new ideas and opportunities for them to make the best of the situation. One of those ideas that recently saw the light of day is their new platform Isolation Porn which is an extension to their Pornceptual blog dedicated to artworks and creations that have been produced in response to the lockdown.

The idea of watching porn films with strangers in a public screening might sound a bit wild at first, but as I’ve learned at our darkroom screenings during last year’s Uncensored Berlin exhibition at Blogfabrik it’s actually kinda thrilling. I’m not talking about some seedy sex kino thingy here but a proper official movie screening. I was surprised how patiently the guests of the exhibition sat quietly and curiously watching the entire length of almost an hour of the two films we showed by Noel Alejandro and Poppy Sanchez. Sometimes the entire darkroom was full of people watching.
I imagine the QueerPornScreening at Schwuz that is opening their Plastic club night to be similar, but even bigger. Certainly, the selection of films will be similar as I’ve also seen Noel Alejandro billed as one of the directors and that’s always a good sign. The curation of the screening is done by Pierre Emö, also not unfamiliar to guests of Uncensored Berlin because he was one of our muses. He’s appeared in multiple films by Noel Alejandro as well as Pornceptual. So he certainly knows what’s good!
If you’re up for some arousing, but tasteful – even artistic – films about queer sexuality you should certainly check out this screening. The next QueerPornScreening is already this Friday at 21h. The highlight will certainly be the premiere of Noel Alejandro’s new film Under The Rain that was filmed here in Berlin at an abandoned building. These ten women and men aren’t afraid to expose their naked bodies to fight against stigmas around sex, gender, and sexual orientation.
It’s a struggle for freedom of expression on a slippery slope. With their work these brave ten blur the lines of art, pornography, sex work, political activism, or what’s considered “professional” work. They face the dangers that come with the openly sexual nature of their work or digital persona. Their explicit representation on and offline is not a green card to sexual consent, what sounds like a no-brainer is something many people do not understand. “I’ve found myself in some very dangerous, and uncomfortable situations,” our cover model Sam Morris told Gay Times, “I have been sexually blackmailed, assaulted, verbally harassed, and raped. These situations have involved photographers, prolific magazine editors, and other gay men I’ve met along the way.” Physical harassment, slut-shaming, and tensions in personal relationships are something all of them have encountered but they found ways to deal with these situations. For erotic filmmaker and performer Anarella Martínez-Madrid, it’s as simple as this: “If being a slut means being able to enjoy your sexual life, and get to know yourself better, then I am a slut”.

Their art made you gasp, their parties made you sweat – and always left you craving for more. For almost 5 years the Berlin collective Pornceptual has been disrupting the worlds of art and porn; first Berlin then the world. But don’t you think they’re out of breath, after half a decade, they are only sharpening their teeth and getting ready to fight: Fittingly, their freshly launched third magazine is called “Guerilla”.
Over 50 visual artists are featured in “Porn Guerilla”, well-known names such as Erika Lust appear alongside young queer and feminist artists from all over the world. Styles, subjects and explicit depictions vary, but throughout the work is connected by themes of unconventionality, struggle, and fight, using erotic art as a tool of resistance against oppressive power structures and censorship.

”We drift in the glitter age.” That’s how iconic Berlin director Ralf Schmerberg captions his erotic music video called Glitter Porn. And you should definitely take this title literally. The inspirations are without a doubt coming from Berlins intense nightlife where glitter parties are not uncommon. I remember back in the days of the Bar 25 how a bag full of different types of glitter was not unusual to bring. And still today at certain parties or open airs and street parades glitter is a welcomed accessory.
What surprises me every time I have it with me, how much of a social catalyst glitter can be. And to be honest, some kisses with strangers I had in the last years where exchanged thanks to glitter. So even though I never had a glitter porn fantasy so far, I can totally relate to the shiny sparkly narrative of this music video for Tiefschwarz which is part of a longer sequence called Lunacy’s Children.
