Localize – Suburbia plays Metropolis

Localize – Suburbia plays Metropolis

Martina Becker

Last weekend – instead of going to 48h Neukölln were my friends had a splash be getting really drunk and stealing designerchairs (true story) – I felt really avant-garde by traveling to suburbia (Potsdam) to go to a streetart/urban intervention festival called Localize taking place in a desiccated watercourse. I was not mentally prepared for the horribly long traintrip and the depressing Potsdam Hauptbahnhof by night (the Deutsche Bahn architect must have some serious personality issues going on). But after that suburbia surprised me with a little nice festival and some fun installations. Even if now getting arrested for stealing design furniture might be on my list for next year’s must-dos. There is still a lot to discover within his huge oeuvre, his early works for instance which are still widely unknown. A great selection of those early works is now shown in an exhibition at the Villa Schöningen in Potsdam.

You believe Atlantis is this hidden culture sunken inside the Mediterranean Sea. I prove you wrong you lazy Berliners never watching what’s happening right in front of your nose. You don’t need to book a flight and hire an expert navy team to find the treasures of Atlantis. Just few S-Bahn stations away in Potsdam there is this outstanding art location called Rohkunstbau which will place real gems of contemporary art in this beautiful setting. The exhibition called Atlantis I -Hidden Histories- New Identities won’t take the Atlantis theme in a Walt Disney way but look inside the philosophical ideas of a perfect state comparing it to the efforts of creating equal Europe. Find more art pieces and more infos after the jump.
