After last year’s intriguing Canvas Bar event in an unused subway tunnel of Berlin, Bombay Sapphire gin is continuing their collaboration with the art world with an exciting new project that we want to introduce to you today: With their new pop-up art campaign, they decided to go BIG. In five German cities, they have claimed the biggest canvas they could get: the walls of buildings.
For four weeks in September, five stunning murals will grace a big wall in Düsseldorf, Köln, Hamburg, Leipzig and – of course – Berlin. For each of the murals they commissioned established local artists: Semor, Jana Wind, Martin Grohs, and Stefan Kunz. But for Berlin, they did something special.

Before we all buckle up for this little joyride, let me start with a disclaimer: the selection of places below is a very subjective one, intending to highlight the wide range of leisure options available around Warschauer Strasse, but even more so to convey some of its unique spirit and direct your attention at a few lesser-known spots. Therefore, I am going to include some of the more or less immediate vicinity, fully aware of the fact that Schlesi is in Kreuzberg, and leave off some distinguished venues like Berghain, since they’re doing a great job speaking (raving?) for themselves. Over the weekend I stumbled across an awesome photo series by Thai Hoang that I want to share with you today. Some of you might also know the young photographer from his Instagram account loewe7 that was also part of our #berlin exhibition last year. As part of the monthly Instameet #CamerasAndDancers organized by Jacob Jonas The Company Thai had the opportunity to follow a group of five dancers through Berlin and capture them in stunning formations in various iconic Berlin backgrounds. I love the idea of this Instameet, I love the guys from the group and I love the results of this photo shoot!

On Friday Leni from Amy & Pink and I were two of the few lucky people who got to join a very exclusive event at Cassiopeia in Friedrichshain. In promotion of their sexy new cabriolet MX-5 the Japanese car brand Mazda organized a private concert of the Finnish band Sunrise Avenue that only 200 people were able to attend. You couldn’t actually buy tickets for this concert, you could only win them on the Mazda page or through various radio stations. I was privileged to be part of a small group of bloggers and journalists who got “smuggled in” by the girls from JuLi PR to see the so-called “concert of your life”.
It’s been actually well over 10 years that I have been inside Cassiopeia and I was pretty amazed by the whole area behind and around it that also includes a beer garden, an open air cinema called Insel and a crazy climbing tower. It was a lovely atmosphere with a wild mix of people of all different styles and it reminded me of how special the whole RAW area is.
As Friday was a pretty hot day the concert inside Cassiopeia pretty quickly developed into a musical sauna experience. But the die hard fans of Sunrise Avenue, as well as the band members were some tough cookies that made it through the heat like an easy exercise. I somehow managed to take some photos and animated GIFs from the performance and in the end I even got rewarded and caught one of the plectrums that the charismatic front man Samu Haber threw into the audience. That is certainly a souvenir to remember this concert, and for you I have the photos after the jump.
