Some people need to travel far to make different memories all over the world. I sometimes just need to travel inside the inner ring of Berlin to collect the same amount of crazy experiences somebody could get from a trip to another continent. And there is a simple reason for that: the Berlin inhabitants are a bunch of curious people, traveling the world and exploring different cultures and bringing their findings back to our city to share it with the other Berliners.
To make an example: I have never been to China and still I got the chance to discover the variety and sophistication of Chinese cuisine right in the middle of Berlin. This happened more by coincidence than by choice. My friend Jacob Schickler who used to live in China for many years started a pop-up restaurant called That Woo together with Yuhang Wu, originally from China but professionally trained chef as a Chef in Germany.

Before we all buckle up for this little joyride, let me start with a disclaimer: the selection of places below is a very subjective one, intending to highlight the wide range of leisure options available around Warschauer Strasse, but even more so to convey some of its unique spirit and direct your attention at a few lesser-known spots. Kreuzberg has a new gem of Italian cuisine right in its heart at Lausitzer Platz. We tested the new restaurant Nudo recently and can full-heartedly give it the thumbs up. Co-owned by the founder of the super successful Kochhaus stores it comes as no surprise that the recipes and ingredients are of the best of quality here. The concept is also quite different from most restaurants. They only have one daily menu that consists of four courses and combines nouveaux cuisine and traditional dishes. It normally includes both fish and meat, but can also be requested as a vegetarian menu or other special requests. So you can basically come here every day and experience something entirely new. We love this concept very much, especially to such a fair price of only 28 EUR. Have a look at our impressions and check out this great new place as soon as you can!

If there is one thing about the restaurant scene in Berlin that I love it’s the amazing variety of Asian cuisine in town. I think I have never visited a city with more good Asian restaurants (outside of Asia of course) than Berlin. One of the most popular choices of Asian cuisine for the Berliners must be Indian. In some districts you get the feeling that literally every block has its own Indian restaurant. To be honest the huge amount of Indian places has also caused a mixed reputation for Indian cuisine in Berlin because apparently there are a lot of mediocre and bad ones. But those should not overshadow those places that have truely amazing Indian food. And to give you a helping hand in the big world of Indian food in Berlin, we have compiled a guide with our favorites and some of the most popular and loved Indian restaurants in Berlin. Last week I had the pleasure to try out the French restaurant Le Faubourg (which means the suburb) that is in the not-so-far West of Berlin at Augsburger Straße inside the Sofitel Berlin. I must admit that I absolutely love French restaurants (sorry, Italy) so this was a special delight for me. There is something about the way the French chefs prepare meat that is just to die for.
As you can see the interior of the restaurant is stunning with these goregeous Bauhaus lamps and perfectly illuminated tables. The service was impeccable, as you would expect from a high class restaurant like this. And the food was just symphony for the taste buds. The interesting part here is the menu for the main courses that is split in half with traditional versions and modern versions of the same type of meat or fish facing each other. You have options with venison, beef, turbot, sea bass and vegetarian dishes with prices ranging from 18-38 EUR. We tried the dry-aged rump-steak (easily one of the best meat dishes I ever had in Berlin) and the turbot with chorizo (very delicious and unusual combination). As a wine I had the Miraval rosé from the Provence that I loved so much that I made a little research about it on the internet and found out it’s the wine from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. What a funny discovery! So ultimately we did not only enjoy a spectacular dinner, we also were in very good company (in spirit). Enjoy our impressions after the jump.

If you ever went skiing in the Alps, for instance in Kitzbühel, you know that there is nothing better after a full day of skiing than a warm lunch on the top of a white mountain inside a cosy hut. You don’t need a master in geography to notice that the Alps are not really nearby. I’m a total breakfast person. Well, I’m a food person in general, but breakfast is the most important meal for me and even if I have a busy day ahead of me I will take my time and indulge in my daily breakfast routine.
I love eating out for breakfast with friends or for business meetings. It sets me in the perfect mood for just about anything the day may bring, to first be served coffee, scrambled eggs, pancakes or cakes. But sadly, the majority of cafes and restaurants don’t align with my nighthawk schedule and super-late breakfast sessions. I never understood why restaurants decide to limit the time they serve certain dishes even though they still have the same cook and the same ingredients in the house. It seems to be one of those German bureaucratic rules that you just have to oblige.
But Berlin wouldn’t be Berlin if there weren’t at least some places that operate outside of these silly rules. I have selected 8 of my favorite places that I gratefully visit on a regular basis for a little all-day breakfast guide for Berlin.

Some Berliners like to climb the Brooklyn bridge and replace the American flags with white ones when they are in New York. When we went to the Big Apple recently, we were maybe not quite as progressive.
I have to admit that I avoided going to the states after my last visit 12 years ago. But despite my general disinterest in this country I always knew that I had to give New York City another try, especially since my last visit is almost 20 years in the past. And boy am I glad that I finally did it. I was amazed by this city, much more than I expected to be. Everything seems to be bigger, better, faster, stronger – and I’m not even exaggerating. It almost felt a bit odd when I returned to Berlin afterwards and everything almost seemed small and ordinary to me.
New York is an extreme city, but much like Berlin it’s totally up to you what you make of it. And thanks to our local guide and good friend Archer we managed to make something really great out of it and had a phantastic time there.
