How Sleepless can you be? – Throwback of Cocktail & Movie at Staatsoper

How Sleepless can you be? – Throwback of Cocktail & Movie at Staatsoper

But really – who thought of giving out free vodka & coffee drinks on a Tuesday night? Does nobody has to work in Berlin on a Wednesday morning? Well, we have nobody else to blame other than ourselves this time.

With Staatsoper and supported by Russian Standard and Schweppes, we threw our third edition of Cocktail & Movie. The ingredients of a sleepless night were simple: sexy cocktails, a lovely crowd, and a thrilling film that left some nightmare-worthy memories. But really: the presented movie White God is not something you would expect in a baroque setting of an Operahouse. The dark fairytale tells the story of a young girl and her dog, through the plot both get separated and have their hurtful journey until they reunite for a big finale. Check out our impression of this incredible night.

A Review of the Like A Berliner Book Launch Party

A Review of the Like A Berliner Book Launch Party

This was fun! On Friday we launched our new book Like A Berliner that we’ve been working on for the past 3 years with illustrator Sophia Halamoda and that is available to order now in our new online shop. We had the incredible honor of doing our party at Kantini in collaboration with Bikini Berlin. It was such a match made in heaven – the wonderful design of the place mixed with the cute illustrations of Sophia that we pasted all over the place.

To make the evening extra special we invited a couple of really unique performers to embody the spirit of our book and take our guests by the hand to make some memorable experiences. From Jennifer Aniston tarot readings by Esben Holk, to anti-confessions with Olympia Bukkakis, tactile sensations with crochet artist Anto Christ, fetish research with drag queen Purrja, and unsolicited plant advice by Miss Poppy Cox – there was something for everyone – and it was great fun. As a special treat, we invited The Darvish to give us a little belly dance, and boy did he deliver!

Recap: Cocktail & Movie presents Wild Tales

Recap: Cocktail & Movie presents Wild Tales

Film and theater premieres are so exciting because you get the chance to see the team behind a production. Therefore we are really happy that we had the great honor to welcome the director of the film Wild Tales Damian Szifron at our Cocktail & Movie Night together with the Staatsoper Berlin.

He is currently rehearsing his first opera production at the Staatsoper: Samson et Dalila. In the course of this, we have planned this event in cooperation with the Staatsoper in order to be able to also show his film work in the opera. The team of Russian Standard and Sierra Milenario has designed two cocktails that embody the Latin American temperament and the incredible energy of the film.

How does the Apocalypse taste? What would you like to drink on the last night before the world ended? Maybe your choice would be Champagne? Or would it be a refined cocktail with a wildflower swimming in it?

The newest production Violetter Schnee by Staatsoper Unter den Linden is all about the end of the world. Five people are trapped inside a bunker and when they leave it to see if the world is alright they discover they are doomed forever.

The opera is inspired by the cult movie Solaris from Andrei Tarkowski where 3 men float in space around an enigmatic planet called Solaris. Since this movie from the 70s is rarely shown in public, together with Staatsoper we decided to create a unique night to present this nostalgic piece of cinematic art.

iHeartBerlin & Staatsoper Berlin Present a Cocktail & Movie Night with Solaris

»Man has gone out to explore other worlds and other civilizations without having explored his own labyrinth of dark passages and secret chambers, and without finding what lies behind doorways that he himself has sealed.« ― Stanisław Lem, Solaris

For many years now Berlin has opened new doors and possibilities to us as a magazine. Some collaborations where coincidences, others grew over time and space and became something as real and important as the digital work we do.

Since the re-opening of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden after its decade-long renovations, we had the pleasure to collaborate with the team of Staatsoper in several projects so far – always with the goal to open up doors and minds for new audiences to the magic of Opera, classical music and dance.
