Together with our friends and partners from Mobile Kino we are raffling off super special balcony seats for the screening on Saturday night. Giraffes for Christmas

Giraffes for Christmas

There is not much going on here on iHeartBerlin during Christmas as we are all home with our families stuffing our bellies with yummy Holiday food and chocolate. But for those who come here craving for some distraction we have a sweet little short film with my favorite animal the giraffe for you. Enjoy 5m80 by Nicolas Deveaux after the jump.

Fuck Off Berlin – A funny short film about Hipsters in Berlin

Fuck Off Berlin – A funny short film about Hipsters in Berlin

Fuck Off Berlin! What sounds like it’s gonna be some kind of rant complaining about Berlin is actually the title of the new short film/music video by Tel Aviv-based electro band The Young Professionals. It was directed by Isreali video maker Omer Tobi and tells the story of a bored Berlin artist who has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious stranger in the woods that changes her life. The film was, of course, shot here in Berlin and it’s really fun to watch. Enjoy the adventure after the jump.

The frightened Ones… are coming back

The frightened Ones… are coming back

Being young is sometimes much more scary than you think. Especially if you live in such a big city as Berlin, where everything seems possible but nothing seems easy if you still are a teenager. The very talented young actor and director Max Hegewald followed a group of eight teenage actors for two years. The result is a documentary episode film titled Die Angsthasen portraying each of them in their own weaknesses and fears. Finally, I will have the chance to see it this Wednesday at the Prince Charles backyard cinema. Every Wednesday there is open air cinema at Prince Charles with independent Berlin movies on show and we would love to see you there and watch with us Die Angsthasen. The Facebook event and trailer after the jump.

A Secret Look into Berghain… with Special Guests!

A Secret Look into Berghain… with Special Guests!

These photos are quite unusual in two ways. First of all, when do you ever see proper photos from the inside of legendary Berghain? Right, almost never, as it’s strictly forbidden to take pictures there. And secondly, what’s with the petting zoo? Is this what’s going on there in the days between Tuesday and Thursday when the club is not open?

What it actually is are some stills from the short film After Hours by Steffen Köhn and Phillip Kaminiak that was part of the exhibition Kultur:Stadt hosted by the Akademie der Künste in 2013. It was the first time that the owners of Berghain let someone film in their precious club, but I guess no-one would have said no to host a film shooting with cute animals. Enjoy some more photo stills after the jump.

A Poetic Berlin Short Film: Tiefer

A Poetic Berlin Short Film: Tiefer

Tiefer is another poetic lo-fi film in our Short Sunday section in the spirit of Greed earlier this month. It shows intimate portraits of a girl mixed with random images from the streets and subways of Berlin. What makes this film strong I think is the tension that is building up toward the end through the music, it gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it. Enjoy the film by Megan Cullen after the jump.

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

While we are normally quite active with our own events during Berlin Fashion Week we thought it was about time we also do something during Berlinale, as films have become such a big part of this blog. And what would fit better than the Berlin Film Night, that we did together with Mobile Kino back in September. The turn-out and response was so amazing and we all loved the selection of short films from various genres. It was our plan to give an encore screening of this for those who missed it and now seems to be the right time. To also make it interesting for those who enjoyed the first screening we extended the program with about half an hour of brand new short films. We are also still open to submissions of Berlin-related films and videos.

And as an iHeartBerlin event wouldn’t be the same without a party the screening will be followed by our iHeartBerlin/ale After Film Party. Both take place at the awesome Urban Spree gallery on the upcoming Saturday, Febuary 16th 2013. Find out more after the jump.

Short Sunday: Greed

Short Sunday: Greed

This Sunday I have a brand new short film from one very talented director from Berlin for you who also contributed to our Berlin Film Night in September. Claire Kurylowski’s film Greed is a pseudo-docu piece on a spiritual healer who has the means to slow the fall from grace. The dreamy, blurry, pink visuals are underlined by an atmospheric score by Berlin-based band Reliq who provided a drifting, sinister aural landscape. Enjoy this very artistic and avant-garde short film after the jump.
