The latest double bill by Staatsballet Berlin brings together two exceptional and unconventional choreographers: Sharon Eyal and Alexander Ekman. Both have created brand new pieces for this show that premiered earlier this month at Staatsoper Unter den Linden. If you’re expecting to see some classical ballet you will be in for a surprise, because this is anything but! We had the chance to join one of the rehearsals and take a couple of photos and GIFs for you. Don’t miss this incredible double performance. The last show of the year is tonight, with more to come in March, May and June 2020.

Film and theater premieres are so exciting because you get the chance to see the team behind a production. Therefore we are really happy that we had the great honor to welcome the director of the film Wild Tales Damian Szifron at our Cocktail & Movie Night together with the Staatsoper Berlin.
He is currently rehearsing his first opera production at the Staatsoper: Samson et Dalila. In the course of this, we have planned this event in cooperation with the Staatsoper in order to be able to also show his film work in the opera. The team of Russian Standard and Sierra Milenario has designed two cocktails that embody the Latin American temperament and the incredible energy of the film.

Together with Staatsoper Unter den Linden we have again the honor to invite you and your friends to a unique Cocktail & Movie Night. On the 6th of November, we will first host a cocktail reception at the Kantine of the opera and then show the unique Argentinian movie “Wild Tales” by Damián Szifron at the Alter Orchesterprobensaal.
Wild Tales is putting all the Argentinian spirit for love, sex, violence, and absurdity in six short episodes that reunite in one extremely hilarious plot. No wonder the movie was internationally acclaimed by the critics and the audience. Now nearly four years after Wild Tales was nominated for the Oscar in the category of Best Foreign Language Movie, the director Damián Szifron is making his opera debut here in Berlin at the Staatsoper with his version of Samson et Dalila which premieres on the 24th of November.

Classical Music is a special treat in your everyday life. If it would be a dish it would be like a delicacy you need days to prepare and as soon as you taste it you know that all the effort was worth it.
Berlin has many places to enjoy classical music. Some are prestigious and elegant, some are more unconventional. One unique setting we have enjoyed in the past two years is the open-air classic concert series Staatsoper für Alle. Organized by Staatsoper Berlin in collaboration with BMW there will be an Opera screening on the 15th and a live concert from the Staatskapelle on the 16th of June at Bebelplatz. And the best thing is: the concerts are completely free and accessible to everyone.
Last year we started the idea to offer a little special for our iHeartBerlin readers that are as into classical music as we are. Before the concert on the 16th at 13.00, we will provide a picnic starting at 11.30h with drinks and snacks for 3×2 readers that we will pick in a raffle. The newest production Violetter Schnee by Staatsoper Unter den Linden is all about the end of the world. Five people are trapped inside a bunker and when they leave it to see if the world is alright they discover they are doomed forever.
The opera is inspired by the cult movie Solaris from Andrei Tarkowski where 3 men float in space around an enigmatic planet called Solaris. Since this movie from the 70s is rarely shown in public, together with Staatsoper we decided to create a unique night to present this nostalgic piece of cinematic art.

During the month of October, the melodies of the iconic French composer Claude Debussy will blend with the lines of one of the emblematic American writer Edgar Allan Poe at the Staatsoper Berlin.
Usher is an unmissable music piece taken from Poe’s short story “The Fall of the House of Usher”, which greatly fascinated Debussy. However, the composer never managed to complete writing the opera. Treasuring its left behind materials on this project, the Belgian composer Annelies Van Parys, who has established her reputation as one of the most innovative contemporary composers, managed to complete his project and developed a fascinating chamber opera.

Yesterday, together with the Staatsoper Berlin, we had the chance to share a very special picnic with 6 of our readers and us for the occasion of Staatsoper für Alle – a free live concert next to the opera at Bebelplatz. It was a great way to enjoy wonderful highlights of classical music and spend time with our readers up close.
In the middle of an ocean of little blankets and foldable chairs, we prepared a cute little picnic with lots of gourmet delicacies. Of course, we could not miss the two most important ingredients if you wanna have a real brunch: Cupcakes and sparkling wine.
