It’s probably not going to be too much of a surprise for you which artist I will name my absolute highlight of the upcoming Berlin Festival that will take place this coming Friday and Saturday at the former Tempelhof Airport. It’s Björk. If you haven’t seen this woman live, I strongly advise you to get your tickets. She is a phenomenon and a force of nature. I’ve seen two shows of her and they both were spectacular. Forget Gaga, Miley and Madonna. This is truely art and an event not to be missed. And it’s so rare also, you really shouldn’t miss it!
Of course a lot of you will also be looking forward to see the other two main acts Pet Shop Boys and Blur. I won’t be able to see them but it’s surely going to be a smash. I’m also excited to see Ellie Goulding live, missed her concerst recently and I think she is a doll. Also on my list: My Bloody Valentive, Delphic, who are also really amazing live, Pantha du Prince, and Matias Aguayo. On the night program at Club X-Berg I’m looking forward to DJ sets by Röyksopp, who I haven’t seen for way too long, and Justice and an extra special “Disko Chinesisch” DJ battle with many local DJs organized by our fellow bloggers from Mit Vergnügen. Fun! Get into the mood with some music after the jump! Read on…

The Berlin Festival and Club X-Berg last weekend was a blast and a great highlight of the Berlin Music Week. I was very proud of my animated GIF installation and the selection of party photos that I showed at the VIP area at The Berliners exhibition. And I was super happy to see Grimes, Kimbra and iamamiwhoami live, especially the later was simply amazing! I also really enjoyed new discovery Tomfoolery from Mannheim and Light Asylum where once again extraordinary, I simply love those guys! Enjoy my impression of the festival after the jump on 3 pages.

Neue Berliner Räume is a platform for changing artists, curators and other creatives. This weekend they present us Echoes of Voices in the High Towers, an exhibition project with British artist Robert Montgomery that will take place over the course of summer 2012. Next to three billboard pieces in front of the old Tempelhof Airport building and two illuminated poem sculptures in the park of the disused airport, Montgomery`s poems will be presented on ten large sized billboard advertising spaces across the city. For the opening of the exhibition in the park of the former Tempelhof Airport, the artist will be presenting one of his Fire Poems. If you can`t stand snobby fashionistas any more, watching burning letters at sunset at Tempelhof is a good way to start a wonderful Saturday night. Just hope for the artist that it will not rain. More pictures and informations after the jump.

Did you know that the World Exposition in Osaka Japan was powered by the energy of the first nuclear plant built in Japan? Or did you know that there is a manual on how to shoot video material to document the demonstration in Syria without the danger of getting killed and your family tortured? The World ist not fair says the theater genius Matthias Lilienthal who is chief of HAU and responsible for the big theatrical event at Flughafen Tempelhof. We had the chance to visit this amazing installation of several perfomances and little exhibitions and were really blown away. This is the last week you can visit it and I recommend to do so. Take your bike and enjoy nature, urbanity and art getting together. Don’t miss the perfomance of Tatjana Saphir and Santiago Blaum at the andcompany&Co stage. Also the Instiut für Imaginäre Inseln has a lot to offer for intrepid explorers. Find the whole program over here and some pictures of our day after the jump.

Lidewij Edelkoort one of the world’s most renowned trend forecasters is coming to Berlin. From her creation of innovative trend books and audiovisuals since the 1980s to lifestyle analysis and research conducted for the world’s leading brands today, Lidewij has pioneered trend forecasting as a profession. She announces the concepts, colours and materials which will be in fashion two or more years in advance because as she claims, “there is no creation without advance knowledge, and without design, a product cannot exist.” In this way, she and her closely-knit teams orient her clients, creative professionals, in interpreting the evolution of society and the signals of consumer tastes to come, without forgetting economic reality. For the DMY she is coming to Berlin to hold one of her renown Trendseminars. Some impressions of her Trendbook, the dates and how to get there after the jump.

Chicks On Speed
Oh my god, this is one of those weeks where the event guide takes me forever to finish because of the art week, Berlin Festival and Berlin Music Week taking place at the same time. That is simply an overload of events, worse than Fashion Week! Okay, let’s cut right to it. There is a massive amount of art events going on. We have selected the four main big shows as well as a few smaller ones. You should definately check out our art blog experts from Castor & Pollux and Private Curators to find out more about all of this. Look after the jump for all art, music and what-not event recommendations…

Bag Raiders
There are three main reasons why the Berlin Festival for me is like the best festival that I know of. One: It’s in Berlin, which means I don’t have to sleep in a tent. Two: Even though it’s partly outdoors all areas still have a roof, so no fear of heavy rain. Three: The line-up is the most amazing I have seen in… forever! Just by briefly flicking through the overview of all the acts I count at least 10 that I definately want to see on September 9 and 10, 2011 at Tempelhof Airport. And I haven’t even taken a closer look at some of the bands that I don’t know yet but that might be equally cool. After the jump you’ll see a few of my highlights of the festival and the related music videos. Suz and Claudio will write about their hightlights in the following weeks and stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates in the line-up.

Deichkind
When I arrived at my first Berlin festival two years ago at the end of the second day I was just in time to see the last act: Peaches. I was happy that I managed to see her, but at the same time mad at myself for not having gone there earlier. It’s been two rainy days and I was sitting at home thinking about leaving the house at all. Well, I should have done, that’s for sure, cause even at the end I could feel the amazing atmosphere of this Festival. The audience, most of them being very young and dressed unbelievably colourful was dancing frenetically to the sound of Peaches. Last year I couldn’t go there because I was not in Germany, but this year I’ll go to write about my impressions, even if it rains cats and dogs, promise.
The fourth Berlin Festival takes place at the upcoming weekend on the area of Airport Tempelhof. For those who don’t know Berlin well, it is not as far as it seems. Kreuzberg 61 is nearby and you can easily reach the airport by taking the U6 from Friedrichstraße. When two years ago there were rather acts only known by people usually going to places like Rio, Picknick and Tape, this year’s line-up is a bit more commercial, nevertheless a good one. Just to name a few: Deichkind, Jarvis Cocker, These New Puritans, The Rifles, Peaches, Pete(r) Doherty und Zoot Woman. Furthermore there will be an additional Club Berlin floor inside the airport for you to party all night long. More after the jump.
