Exploring Berlin: A Walk Down Kastanienallee

Whether you’re in the mood for romance, showing a friend around from out of town, or just collecting your own thoughts outdoors, it’s always a good idea to take a stroll through Berlin’s cosmopolitan wonder. And now that the lovely spring weather is arriving, can you think of anything better?

Kastanienallee and its surrounding area has a reputation for being a bit uppity, perhaps too trendy, perhaps too crowded with tourists and young moms and their baby strollers. But despite the onslaught of haters, the Kiez continues to be one of the most beautiful areas in the city, if not the world!

Berlin Fashion Week – Day 3: Meet the Designers

On our third day of Berlin Fashion Week I took my time to visit all the avant-garde showrooms and exhibitions. This might not sound so exciting because there is no event or show or party taking place. But here I get the chance to actually talk to the designers who create all these great collections face-to-face and get to know the person that designs the clothes I am wearing. On my tour I visited the SEEK exhibition, Temporary Showroom, Collect, the (capsule) tradeshow and finally the showroom of Edged and fier Management. The Showroom Picks

During Fashion Week there was one thing we didn’t find the time for: the showrooms. It’s quite a shame, though, as very often they have the most interesting stuff. Luckily, the Temporary Showroom exemplary uploaded all the lookbooks of the summer 2010 collections they had on display so I can catch up now digitally.

They have a strong focus on menswear and once again I found the collections of Finish label Dusty and Swedish label Odeur the most convincing. Both of them have stayed true to their style while bringing new colors and textures into their collection. While Dusty’s fall collection was all about ropes the summer collection now adds fringes to the designs.

Odeur always has one splash of color in their otherwise black or white pieces. This summer it was a fresh yellow, coming fall it will be pink and next summer it is a cool light blue. More examples of both label’s summer 2010 collections after the jump.
