Berlin Goods: Shoes by VELT

Berlin Goods: Shoes by VELT

There is an unbelievably high amount of fashion designers here in Berlin, but when it comes to shoes it’s quite a different story. Being a shoe designer seems to be a rare calling here in Berlin which is really disappointing for me because I really love shoes. However, the few local shoe labels have all the more attention and that is a good thing.

One of them is the Berlin-based label VELT that is currently hosting a pop-up shop at The WYE at Skalitzer Str. 86. Their menswear line of shoes is really the perfect mix of classic shapes and subtle colors with enough unusual and playful details to make this an interesting shoe while still being wearable and not too crazy looking for the less fashionably daring gender. I particularily like their new summer collection that features a few models with cut-outs. They’re not sandals, but still quite airy and perfect for warmer temperatures of the season. Have a closer look after the jump and make sure to try them on at the pop-up shop.

The Cyberfest is one of the biggest festivals for technology-based art in Europe and while it has been taking place in St. Petersburg in the past years it will now have its premiere here in Berlin at The WYE starting next Wednesday with an opening reception and party hosted by I HEART BERLIN.

This year’s edition titled Time & Place will feature the work of over 100 artists in the fields of sound, video and performance art with screenings, concerts and exhibition spread out in a program running from Wednesday til Sunday (Nov 13-17, 2013) in the different floors of The WYE, the cultural, artistic and intellectual hub in the heart of Kreuzberg at the old post office building at Skalitzer Str. 86. Additional events will also take place at Platoon Kunsthalle at Schönhauser Alle in Mitte. You can take a closer look at the program here and join the Facebook event here. The whole event is free of entrance. Make sure to come by the vernissage on Wednesday from 20-23:30h and the after party at the Privatclub next door of The WYE starting at midnight with DJ sets by Hubie Davison and Jaan Ugrinsky. The Story of a Shoe: The Party – Part 4

The Story of a Shoe: The Party – Part 4

After weeks of preparations and anticipation it finally happened last night. Design studio MURO.EXE celebrated its launch and showed their collection of hybrid sneakers here in Berlin at The WYE with our support. And it was a really great nice for all of us! We had a super cool interactive color mapping video installation by Kalma and an eclectic soundscape by El Fulminador to set the right mood for the presentation an our friends from SKYY VODKA and Warsteiner supplied us with their delicious drinks. We were very pleased so many of you showed up and were so curious about the shoes that you can order online now here. The showroom is still open today from 14-19h and tomorrow from 12-17h. Enjoy the photos of the launch party after the jump.

If you look at the title of this post a little closer you will notice a small change. I’ve inserted “party” to our weekly event guide, as the party guide that normally comes out on Thursday is on hiatus. As companesation I will add a few more parties for the weekend into this guide and also add them during the week when more pops up on my horizon. So enjoy the new extended event and party guide after the jump.

Belin at Stroke

This is Berlin Art Week. I admit I dread those Berlin Something Weeks because that means a hell of a lot of events to go through for this guide and not enough time to go to all the things that sound interesting. But I think I’ve managed to sum up some interesting ones for you, though I will have to publish them in two stages starting with the ones earlier in the week. I would also like to refer you to some other art-related blogs and websites that will give you further insights and coverage: Castor & Pollux, Artfridge, ArtBerlin, Bpigs, Berlin Artparasites and artconnect Berlin. Have fun with all the art, but remember not to touch anything with your sticky fingers… The event guide – part 1 after the jump.
