Everybody Dreams – A Dreamy Exhibition by JUNIQE & Casper in Berlin

In a city of freelancers that take their home office very seriously and party people that are way too busy to squeeze in an appointment with their bed in their tight weekend schedule, sleep is a scarce, but very highly regarded commodity. If you’re like me, and you regard the time spent in bed as key to keep your creative juices flowing, you have to check out the upcoming Berlin Art Week events hosted by the lifestyle brand JUNIQE and Internet’s favorite mattress manufacturer Casper.

Berlin never stops to deliver us new places to explore and fall in love with. Each year an abundance of new things pop up all over town, putting undiscovered areas on the map and adding new spice to already established ones.

The gastronomic newcomers of this years are particularly exciting and diverse and we had a bit of a hard time to choose the ones we want to present you here in our new guide. We especially love the fact that the style of kitchen is becoming more experimental and bringing some new trends into town, but also that interior and ambience continues to evolve.

Here’s our selection of the most exciting new restaurants in Berlin that you should check out in 2017.

The History of the Soho House Building

The History of the Soho House Building

Photo: Heinz Funck, 1949

Soho House, an exclusive members’ club and hotel is appropriately located in a renowned building situated in the heart of the city just few steps away from Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Built in the New Objectivity style, even today still fancy and impressive, it was first opened in 1929 and had a name sounding a little less posh than the one it holds today. The “Kaufhaus Jonass” was Berlin’s first department store where you could pay in rates.

The CLASHWALL Event Photos

The CLASHWALL Event Photos

Last Saturday Berlin’s walls got upgraded with yet another amazing huge streetart mural. This new artwork, a collaboration of street artists Wurstbande, Gogoplata and Rylsee, was put together by many small illustrations based on over 380 submitted ideas and sketches of streetart fans. The finalization of the CLASHWALL was accompanied by an open air party and barbeque that took place in the empty space between two buildings on Torstraße 86 where you can still see the huge piece. I joined the festivities and took some photos that you can enjoy after the jump along with a cool video summery.

This Thursday Converse’s SNEAKER CLASH series goes into the next round with the PHOTOCLASH that is taking place at Mein Haus am See for 3 days. Several local artists will “hack” your own photos that you can submit via Twitter or bring to the event and create little artworks out of them. Sounds fun?! Than head over to the PHOTOCLASH Studio at Brunnenstr. 197/198 from April 3-5 from 18-02h. Enjoy!

Haven’t been at one of these hipster-overrun opening receptions at Lucas Carrieri Gallery in a while. But this new series of events called Faster! Stronger! Brighter! seems to be a reason to pop up there again. Tonight it starts with the photo exhibition DAMES by D.A.M. which looks really fun and interesting, especially the outfits and styling. There’s also going to be an art performance by Mad Kate, Clea Cutthroat and Ginger Synne. More of that after the jump.

Intarsia Portraits

Facade

At the Sister Cities exhibition opening at MK Gallery a few weeks back I was especially impressed by the wooden portraits of young men by Tilo Uischner. Not only did I like the portraits themselves, but also the delicate intarsia details that make up the clothes of the portrayed characters. I have never seen anything like it but I want three of them!

This Saturday the MK Gallery will celebrate the opening of the artist’s first solo show in the project room with 10 of his impressive pieces. A few more and the details after the jump.

It’s all about Thursdays

Suspiria

Ok, this weekend it’s all about Wurst, horses, meat, utopia, bass, demo, republic, gentlemen and swimming. This time a bit more for those of you who are culturally interested, here are your favourite partytips:

Vernissage at Bergstübl and Lucas Carrieri Gallery (Torstr. 96 as usual) tonight, go and absorb some art, ignoramous! If you just don’t care but got nasty collywobbles, have a proper German Wust tonight, at the opening of Fleischerei as a traditional Berlin Currywurst Restaurant at Torstr. 116. Yummie… More parties after the jump.
