Dubl Trubl is the funny title of the current group exhibition of one of our favorite galleries for urban art, the Urban Spree gallery at the RAW area in Friedrichshain. Curated by Discreet over 90 street and graffiti artists, mostly from London, had paired up and sprayed over every inch of the outside and inside walls of the gallery. This is a continuation of the fascinating concept to use the entir building as a canvas for art and this exhibition has made use of it in the most extensive capacity that I have seen so far. Even the trash cans were used for the art! What I like about the exhibition that it somehow seems like it’s still from one artist as most of the work kept in the colorspace that includes black, white and yellow. It looks pretty iconic this way and will be very memorable, though it will soon be painted over by the next exhibition I assume.
This Thursday the exhibition will celebrate its closing night so it’s your last chance to see it up-close. To make the finissage even more exciting it will also be the release of the Dubl Trubl documentary video and zine that was produced in parallel to the exhibition with lots of behind the scenes and making of material. Urban Spree is also celebrating the launch of Chrisse Kunst’s print collaboration with the artists Dave The Chimp, Billy & Alex, Thierry Noir, Aeon, Christiaan Nagel, Reka and more. So come by and check out all the shiny new things and discover all the Dubl Trubl street art and graffiti around the place. Some previews after the jump.
It was about time: Berlin is getting an alternative fashion event for the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The first edition of the Berlin Alternative Fashion Week is happening in the first week of October 2014 and will include an array of events on several days such as fashion presentations, a designer market, TEDx talks and fashion parties. The fashion that is being showcased and sold here is quite different from what we are used to from the official Berlin Fashion Week that usually happens in January and July each year. The organizers of the event describe it as alternative while I like to call it avant-garde, progressive and artistic. One of our favorite carzy Berlin designers is going to be part of the show: Tata Christiane, as well as a couple of really excentric international designers and Berlin newcomer Alles. So far only 8 of the participating designers have been revealed on the brand new website with more to come in the following weeks. To celebrate the start of a new platform for Berlin’s creative fashion scene the makers are throwing a big launch party this Friday at Urban Spree. Come by get a taste of what’s to come in October. Get a preview of the first announced designers after the jump.
After the great success of the Berlin Wonderland exhibition last weekend the Urban Spree Gallery in Friedrichshain is already opening its next group exhibition tonight. Spaces is a group show of the local collective of photographers called Berlin Fotografen. The exhibited work is dedicated to the exploration of the presentation of photography in a room with all its dimensions. It takes a look at the photo book as a presentational room as itself versus the open exhibition space of the gallery. After the jump you can get a preview of some of the photographs, more to see tonight at the opening. The exhibition runs until June 21, 2014.
Street art gallery Urban Spree has a special place for the French in their heart and yet another one for graffiti and typography. So it makes total sense they would invite 8 different French graffiti artists for a group show into their gallery. On Friday they will celebrate the opening of their exhibition Saucisse Curry (which translates to Curry Wurst, if you know what that is) and their will be lots of things going on, not only the exhibition itself but also the presentation of the latest mural on the big outside wall facing Warschauer Straße (which is a tradition for Urban Spree) and a DJ booth installation for the set by DJ Pone. After the jump you will get a little preview of the work of the exhibiting artists. Enjoy!
Since we love all things cute and colorful we were enthusiasts of Pictoplasma from its first events on. During the past decade the Pictoplasma project has hosted, encouraged and pushed forward a unique, playful and amazing portfolio of visual artists. To celebrate the 10th anniversary edition the festival for character design starts with the Pictoplasma Portrait Gallery at Kaufhaus Jandorf, an exhibition presenting original works by the 100 artists who have most influenced the festival in the past (open from May 1 to May 11). Just like in the past years you can wander around town and plunge into the Character Walk enjoying numerous exhibitions by emerging and established artists. The freshly graduated alumni of the first Pictoplasma Academy, held in October 2013, will present their works at Urban Spree. On three nights the Babylon Mitte brings unique animations to the big screen and on Saturday night everything culminates in the inevitable Big Birthday Party at Urban Spree. Plenty of opportunities to discover your playful side and celebrates creativity and fantasy. More pictures of what you can expect after the jump.
The Urban Greenhouse is a wonderful project from Denmark invinted by Line Grüner and produced by Anton Balle that is making its Berlin debut this Sunday at Urban Spree gallery. The 2sqm mobile greenhouse fits two chairs and a coffee table and about 1sqm of ground to grow whatever you like. It’s like a little green garden paradise in a box, on wheels.
Those wheels will make a little tour through Friedrichshain on Sunday and than at 15h will arrive at Urban Spree where it will remain until the end of June. Everyone who is curious about this cool invention is invited to drop by during the tour or at the opening reception at Urban Spree for a chat and some tea. Some more impressions and the details after the jump.

It will showcase the artworks and a mural by four prominent street artists and painters from Poland: M-City, Magda Drobcyzk, Otecki and Zbiok. After the jump you can get a preview of the show, but you should definately enjoy it in the amazing space of the gallery.
Our big Halloween Event is coming closer and we have yet another post to get you in the right mood. Today I want to show you some of the artworks from the current exhibition at Urban Spree Gallery in Friedrichshain. They have a big installation and a series of really cool silk screen prints by Islraeli street art crew Broken Fingaz on display. They even covered the front of the building with a big mural and the image of that is also available as a limited sticker set. All the prints from the exhibition are also available in the gallery. Have a look after the jump what I’m talking about!
Ruben Brulatis a young photo artist from France who has previously shown his work here in Berlin at the Urban Spree gallery. His photo series Paths is particularily stunning. It was created during the past 3 years on his extensive travels through Asia and shows breathtaking landscapes with one tiny unexpected detail: A naked body embedded into nature. After the jump you can get a small preview of some of the photos from this amazing series.
