A Street Art Scavenger Hunt

A Street Art Scavenger Hunt

Recently Berlin-based artist duo Various & Gould have revealed a street art scavenger hunt as part of the Backjumps exhibition opening at Kunstraum Bethanien. We absolutely love this idea, combining art with an interactive game and making it an experience that goes beyond the traditional gallery visit. What the artists have prepared for this hunt is an illustrated version of a short story by Polina Soloveichik that has been divided in 6 parts that are being spread out along a route in Kreuzberg. With each illustration you will also find a part of the story (in German, but with a QR code you will be able to get a translation in English on your smartphone). It’s about three construction workers named Maik, Paul and Jörg and the secret about some abandoned construction sites. The works will were revealed in conjunction with the opening of Backjumps. You can get more details on the Various & Gould website. With the hashtag #PublicTale photos and comments about the project can be tracked on Twitter and Instagram. After the jump you can see photos of the street art pieces.

Berlin Festival – Discovering the Art Village

Berlin Festival – Discovering the Art Village

photo: Klub7

Every year the Berlin Festival not only brings a top notch line-up and an international crowd celebrating for two days at the former Tempelhof Airport. Representing Berlin’s spirit at its best the initiator of the Berlin Festival, Conny Opper, wanted to include urban art in the context of the music festival. This is why on a big part of the festival area every year an Art Village emerges with several kinds of highlights to give the music lovers a good time between their favourite bands. As we hear from the curator of the Art Village himself, Jan ‘Yaneq’ Kage also known for organising Party Arty ( read a whole interview over here), this edition will be even more colorful with more installations and an even more diverse art display than in previous years.

Airport Tempelhof will see a church, a pub, a circus tent for poets, a market square where art will be sold, a dance arena, as well as a swimming pool equipped with a sauna in between the hangars, The art part itself will be contributed by some of our favourite street artists from Berlin like Nomad, Various &Gold, Klub7, Bosso Fataka, Clemens Behr and many more. But to bring a fresh vibe to the creative output an open call ran before the festival to animate young artists to submit their ideas. Apart from all kinds of different street artists some very nice contemporary dancers round up the program with their perfomances. We think the Art Village is a wonderful way for Berliners and visitors to get to know the artistic subculture of this city a little better. So don’t just hang out in line for drinks and fries in between your favourite gigs or during music breaks but take your time to discover the Art Village. A Holy Art Procession!

A Holy Art Procession!

photos: Just!

While being on holiday at the most beautiful tropical beaches probably doesn’t make you miss the cement and polution of the big city at all, Berlin still manages to make you regret ever leaving it once you receive an invitation to an event that you really would have loved to go to. Last week a holy procession of a special kind took place in town organized by the Berlin artist duo Various& Gould. Four of the saints from Gould’s series Sankt Nimmerlein were brought in a solemn procession to four different places in town like Tacheles or the Bayer building in Wedding, as a protest against the decline of alternative and urban culture in Berlin. As I already said about the Duali -Tree, an installation Various&Gould did last year, I love to support artist and and creative minds, which does not just complain but never hesitate to create something new and provoking to tell their opinion. You can see more pictures of the procession which was supported by Neurotitan Gallery and Haus Schwarzenberg after the jump.

Heinrich – The Public Puppet

Heinrich – The Public Puppet

An art installation at the the crossroad of theatre and street art happened at Görlitzer Bahnhof last month and I am quite sad that I missed to see it. Heinrich, a grown up marionette, was installed by Various & Gould at the subway station. Not only the marionette itself is a beautiful piece of art in my eyes. The human interaction that happened with it seemed to be really impressive. You can read some really touching stories about the inhabitants of the area protecting the marionette from any kind of assault here. After the jump you can find some amazing pictures of Heinrich meeting Berlin. Read on…
