Ladies and gentlemen, grace yourself, sit back and enjoy: Our impressions from this year’s Zinnoberball spectacle – the famous masked ball of the UdK. We missed the big opening night, sadly, we hear it was a great success. But we went to the second night on Saturday which still gave us tons of glamorous costumed folks to photograph… See for yourself on 3 pages after the jump. This should be the perfect inspiration for our upcoming Halloween event!

This Friday it’s time for one of the biggest masked balls in town: The famous Zinnoberball takes place every two years and is organized by students of the University of Arts (UdK) since 1954. It’s quite spectacular and I’ve made one of my all-time favorite party photo sets there 4 years ago. Last time, two years ago, we didn’t get in due to the masses of people trying to go there. So if you are a student of the UdK I would recommend you to buy your ticket in advance for the upcoming one this weekend. Everyone else should be there way early! This year it’s actually a two-day marathon starting with the first dance on Friday night, a breakfast and day program including readings, a barbie doll catwalk, live bands and visual installations on Saturday and the final big party on Saturday night. Hurrah! We are excited. More details after the jump.

Last Saturday the infamous Zinnoberball – the masked-ball of the UdK – took place once again after two years have passed since the last one. I was already quite impressed with almost 1000 guests on the facebook event, but when I was standing in front of the costumed masses of people at the main entrance of the UdK I was practically speachless. I was so eager to take photos there, but I couldn’t even get near the door. And there was no chance for me getting in as well as for so many other people who probably spend weeks preparing there gorgeous costumes. What an utter shame! So I am left with going back to 2009 and taking a look at the Zinnoberball photos I took back then.
And if anyone got the chance to take some nice photos there, please contact us! We are dying to see some of the new costumes.

This week is one of those versatile affairs again. We have two very interesting photography exhibitions opening by Berlin-based talents Sascha Weidner and Maxime Ballesteros, and the rest of the week is dominated by very participative events: Sew a dress at a DIY party, climb into an interactive installation at an indie-game party, prepare an amazing dish at a cooking party, and make your own costume for a masked ball. This and much more after the jump.
