The Naked and Famous are quite a phanomenon. There is an astonishing hype about the band from Auckland – for a reason, since their music is truly amazing.
The stylistic influence of MGMT certainly cannot be denied, but I think it is better to make a good copy than being unique but bad. And naturally The Naked and Famous are much more than a copy cat. They developed an individual style of their own.
Seeing the band live is by the way a whole different experience (they played at this year’s Berlin Festival), as the music is much less pop than you would think…
