Berlin Design Highlights 2016

This upcoming weekend is all over the radar of design. Multiple happenings lure product and fashion designers from all over the world to our beloved city. Design has become an important creative field in this city – 10 years ago, making a living in the creative industry was fairly impossible. Nowadays tons of small studios, ateliers and design manufactures build businesses in town. This weekend not only do you have the chance to visit the spaces of these small studios, but you can also discover international design coming to Berlin for the DMY fair. This and three other design highlights in our little design guide for the weekend.

DMY

The design fair that presents local and national talent used to take place in the hangars of Flughafen Tempelhof. With the change to Kraftwerk, the exposition has become much more focused on experimental design and university research. The impressive location is a challenge for a designer to present his work – a challenge well-mastered by most of the participants. If you are looking for a cool spot to hide from the sun, this is your place to go.

Nachtschicht

Once a year the city’s creative studios open their doors to the public. Big names to small manufacturers show their work environment and present the highlights of last year’s work. To give the visitors something to remember, most of the studios organize lectures, concerts and parties. For networking and a bit of flirting out of your usual work environment, I recommend to make a little tour. Check out the map and the program on their website.

Design on screen – Berlin Fashion Film Festival

Fashion films are much more than just fashion lookbooks in moving images. The whole art form evolved into a creative industry of its own. The organizers choose from over 800 submissions the best fashion shorts created last year. Don’t miss their public viewing and interesting lectures. Their award show is also something you won’t easily forget.
