Sankt Veit with Tom Demac, Quarion and Resom

Dancing mania (also known as dancing plague, choreomania or Sankt Veits' Dance, Tanzwut) was a social phenomenon that occurred primarily in mainland Europe between the 14th and 17th centuries. It involved groups of people, sometimes thousands at a time, dancing erratically. The mania affected men, women, and children, who danced until they collapsed from exhaustion. Join Tom Demac, Quarion, resom, Paul Morgan, Pettenreuth and Danny Isola at Chalet Club to dance the night away. Vor dem Schlesischen Tor 3.

Audre Lorde's Germany: African Diasporic Presences and Influences on Contemporary German Literary and Cultural Politics

This conference will focus on Audre Lorde’s influence on the German context. Her ideas, social paradigms and her presence in Germany provide the framework for an engagement with society from politicized Black feminist female subject positions. Significant activist, academic and authorial structures in Lorde’s life will be thematised. The contributions systematically approach Audre Lorde as a symbolic figure, as a real person, as a provider of ideas for countless socially critical movements. January 30-31 from 13h-21h, Unter den Linden 6, Room 2094.

CENSORSHIP - IN CONTEXT

How does an artist react to being censored? How does it affect their work moving forward? And why is a censored artist relevant to you? These are the questions we’ll explore in an intimate conversation with Chris Phillips & Emre Sağlam, two Berlin-based artists whose artworks have experienced censorship. Chris and Emre will present and showcase each of these works, as they guide us through how each piece was censored. This is a live interview, open to the public, and hosted by Shivani Saini an accomplished producer and consultant from Canada.

A Generative Library: Grand Opening of Büro BDP

For the opening of the new Büro BDP they have asked former and future collaborators to contribute to a generative library, a collective curriculum for the past and future practices of BDP, the books that have and will guide us through our future. The range is telling, from the old and manhandled to the paperless PDF, the school book that offered clandestine secrets to active assistants in current research projects. With this opening gesture, they hope to establish Büro BDP as an active space for book research, publishing and indeed reading. Opening January 31st, 2015 from 14h-22h, with a reading at 20h at Broken Dimanche Press, Mareschstrasse 1.

GRAND OPENING CYCLE 4: Chris Evans | Rimini Protokoll

At PRAXES, Evans’s Cycle unfolds in four modules titled 'Hat', 'Hat', 'Hat', and 'Uniform'. The initial Hat summons a gallery of airbrush works produced throughout the artist’s career, shown together for the first time. Proxies for (sometimes non-existing) projects, posters, contributions to publications, as well as singular paintings, this body of work—sharing crudely propagandistic yet dreamlike industrial aesthetics—is accompanied by a recreation of Magnetic Promenade (2006) on the façade at PRAXES. Founded in 2002, the collective Rimini Protokoll has developed their very own branch of experimental theater, documentary performance, film, installations, and actions. Based at the theater HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, a few blocks from PRAXES, yet touring extensively around the world, the group continuously test and augment audience relations. Alexandrinenstrasse 118-121.
