Devendra Banhart is not just one of the most handsome male artists (unsurprisingly he has been working as a male model), he also is one hell of a weird talent, emphasis on weird. His new album Mala , the first studio album since 2009, will be out on March through his new home label Nonesuch.
Listen to the new track Für Hildegard von Bingen after the click. Also watch the beautiful video he has once made with his than-girlfriend Rebecca Schwartz. Did I tell you that Devendra is also famous for letting his current girlfriend perform in a video of him? This seems quite odd since it must be hilariously taunting for all his ex-girlfriends (including Natalie Portman) to watch him anew with the new girl. Bad for them, good for us since they’re all extraordinarily beautiful and somehow talented in either art or film or both.

Devendra Banhart: “Für Hildegard Von Bingen” by Nonesuch Records
By the way, this Hildegard used to be a Catholic saint who lived in the 12th century and was a composer, writer and theologist. Rather unusual for a woman at her time and also quite dangerous, but what else can you do when you repeated all these prayers more than a thousand times, stucked behind these walls of alleged purity, hm. Why Banhart chose her to name his song after, he explained like this: “In my head there was this little movie, an alternative universe, I guess – Hildegard is sequestered in her cloister, and one day she gets a VHS cassette and it’s the prime era of the MTV VJ, and she just goes wild. ‘That’s it for me,’ she says. ‘That’s how I’m going to get my message across.’ So she escapes the cloister…and becomes a VJ.”
Hm, I told you he is a weirdo, a talented weirdo. By the way, the word Mala is Serbian and means something really sweet and nice. Go ahead, just say it to somebody, spread love and stuff.
