Berlin Dress – The Inbetween Fashion Week

Let’s face the facts: During Berlin Fashion Week in January and July there is just so much going on compressed in just a couple of days that it’s humanly impossible to make it to all the events that might interest you. So it’s a not a big surprise that some event organizers (including my own project Designer Scouts) have moved outside of Fashion Week to avoid these overcrowded days where everyone is just complaining how stressful everything is (first world problems…). The new fashion festival Berlin Dress would fit perfectly into the Fashion Week, but the organizers Berlin Pieces have decided to do it now in late August. I welcome that decision because in between Fashion Weeks there is so few fashion events going on in Berlin that I am happy that we have yet another. Find out more about it and win guestlist spots for the opening on Friday after the jump.

The Designers

In the two-day program of the Berlin Dress festival an array of Berlin-based and German designers will present their collections in a big market in the form of booths and installations. You can not only look at the clothes but will also be able to buy them directly. To give you a few names, these are some of the labels that you will find there: Sopopular, Tata Christiane, Butterfly Soulfire, Anne Gorke, Nico Sutor, Großer Heinrich and many more.

The Location

The makers of Berlin Dress chose quite the interesting location: The Plattoon Kunsthalle – a building that is put together by 33 oversea containers all standing one of the few empty properties in Prenzlauerberg at Schönhauser Allee. The festival will not only use this unique construction but also the factory behind it and the free space around. It’s going to be quite the huge set-up!

The big Opening Night

On Friday, August 30th 2013 at 21h Berlin Dress will celebrate its Grand Opening. And for that special occasion they have put together an elaborate program. The guys from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival have compiled a program of the best fashion films from local designers that they will screen from 21-23h. Also, the editors of Kaltblut Magazine will present a fashion performance in collaboration with some of the partaking labels. It’s going to be one hell of a show! Of course there are also going to be a couple of DJ sets that night with DJs Amy Heaton, Pilocka Krach (Live) and Mieko Suzuki.

On Sunday the market is open from 13-20h with DJ sets by Aniaetleprogrammeur, Plateau Repas and Hanin Elias. What a program!
