A night in Berlin, a night in darkrooms, in a bassy club and in strange beds. Kevin Junk’s debut novel “Fromme Wölfe” (“Pious Wolves”) takes us on a weekend that we experience through the watchful eyes of its protagonists. The rave merges with the ritual as the drug bags click and sex waits at every corner, promising transformation.
Yet for all the harshness of its themes, there remains room for amorous tenderness and a perspective on masculinities that doesn’t shy away from vulnerability. “Fromme Wölfe” is a sharply drawn study of millieu in crystal-clear language, but it’s also a tenderly told love story full of longings and experiences of rage.
Kevin Junk reads from “Fromme Wölfe” at Ficken3000 at one of the novel’s settings.
