Since its launch last year, Lunchbox Candy has quietly hatched into one of Berlin’s best-kept secrets.
From the first couple successful events onto the big, genre-unbound communion of souls it has become, there’s no doubt things have gelled in the best possible way, making LbC a new QueenPin amongst Berlin’s top-of-the-range queer events.
Featuring an iconic line up of hosts and performers – welcoming back our queen Purrja, the obscenely fabulous Nancy Grrl!, the inimitable Phoenix Chase-Meares – who literally brought the house down at our last party and our mainstay, space cowboy Rainer Sellien. And if that isn’t enough how about Alvin Collantes, whose supernova energy sends the crowd in hysterics, the stunning Panda Volkova with her kooky performance art shenanigans, and welcoming our newest member, the beautifully alluring and mysterious Artis.
Helming the decks, a mouth-watering line-up will ensure the crowd will merge together as one fluid mass of throbbing hearts. Taking care of the warm-up outdoor, young Italo Moderni and Rurutu affiliate Hannes will steer the audience into a groovy maelstrom of Italo-disco and euro-house dynamics from 8 to 10 PM. Then it’ll be time to push the doors open at ÆDEN already, and witness Vio PRG snatch souls with her ever eclectic palette of sounds; from straight-out jacking house to cosmic-tinged electronics, via steely techno and psychedelic blends. The tried-and-tested duo of Elninodiablo and world-class percussionist Sudha Kheterpal will again bring the heat along, with their blend of driving EBM, disco and shamanic house.
From 3 to 5am, LbC co-founder Adam Munnings will take over the stage to dispense a solid two hours of high energy new wave disco flavours, askew tech grooves and more unclassifiable delicacies to wrap your bodies around. Resident DJ La Schmock (Gegen/Italo Moderni) will then proceed to shower the dance floor with an avalanche of retro-gazing, 80s synth-heavy goodies spanning the finest of newbeat, Italo-disco and coarser EBM belters.
Wrapping this long journey from night into day, the reins will be handed over to on-the-rise local duo Marine and Sophy, alias MDSM, whose impeccably curated techno sets have had the walls of Panorama Bar and Mala Junta shaking in ecstasy, and regularly agitate the waves of HÖR. A proper finale that promises to have the woofers melting in exhaustion and tiles of the roof flying off like hockey pucks.
