The OPULENCE Pop-Up Lecture Series poses free, one-hour public conversations about art, media, performance and culture with a focus on queer/poc and trans thinkers, activists and cultural producers.
First up is Julian Kevon Glover, a Visiting Scholar / Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies and the Department of Dance and Choreography. She is an academic, activist and performer who is writing a book about the experiences of transgender women in the ballroom scene across Chicago, London, Paris, and Amsterdam. Their work investigates how Black, Latinx, and Afrolatinx queer people, specifically transwomen, respond to social, economic, cultural, and political marginalization through the deployment of specific strategies, tactics, and tools designed to enable them to acquire the human and material resources to survive/thrive in a world hellbent on their annihilation.
For OPULENCE, she will present, “Heaux-liness: Some Thoughts on Sex, the Sacred and Celebration During a Pandemic”
